Pushing to confront Ebola at its West African source, President Barack Obama said Wednesday the United States was not immune to the disease but cautioned against discouraging American health care workers with restrictive measures that confine them upon their return from the afflicted region. "We can't hermetically seal ourselves off," he declared.
Obama said doctors and nurses from the United States who have volunteered to fight Ebola in West Africa are American heroes who must be treated with dignity and respect.
His remarks came amid debate between the federal government and several states over how returning health care workers should be monitored. The White House has pushed back against overly restrictive measures, including proposals for travel bans or isolation measures adopted by some states.
"Yes, we are likely to see a possible case elsewhere outside of these countries, and that's true whether or not we adopt a travel ban, whether or not you adopt a quarantine," Obama said from the White House, surrounded by health care workers who have volunteered or will volunteer to serve in Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea, where the disease has killed nearly 5,000.
"We have to keep in mind that if we're discouraging our health care workers, who are prepared to make these sacrifices, from traveling to these places in need, then we're not doing our job in terms of looking after our own public health and safety," he added.

I've heard it said that you shouldn't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. This is a case of saying the perfect is impossible so the good shouldn't be done either.
Obama's argument, taken to its natural conclusion is like saying that since everyone is mortal and will die eventually, medical care is completely worthless.
Why not? Australia just did.
Obama on Ebola fight: US can’t seal itself off; “It’s not like there’s some sort of vast ocean between the US and Africa,” Says President
lol. I wish I thought of that.
The ex-Speaker was defending Obama's Coordinated Assault Targeting American People Using Lethal Terminal foreign citizens.

I actually think Obama is executing his "plan."
- Destroy the middle class
- Fund and support the Islamic Caliphate and goad it into attacking Israel
- Bring American to 3rd World Status (except for the elites in their bunkers and limos)
I don't understand why they don't think a quarantine IS being respectful and dignified to everyone else.
As expected, Obama uses a phony straw-man argument (a.k.a. "a lie") to defend the indefensible.
Nobody has actually claimed or suggested that we could 'hermetically seal ourselves off'.
Rather, the idea has been that you can take steps to reduce the likelihood of bringing Ebola-infected persons into the country via air transportation from the most heavily-affected areas by implementing a combination of travel bans and quarantining of persons who have traveled to the affected areas.
Good point. He’s an idiot.
I believe it. I'd bet some, but certainly not all, of those health care professionals attracted to Doctors Without Borders meet a particular personality profile: guilt-ridden white liberals possessed of excessive self-importance and self-righteousness. And then they think they're just too darn special to have to comply with quarantine guidelines and other rules for less special people.
...”cautioned against discouraging American health care workers with restrictive measures that confine them”...
What utterly stupid remark.....any healthcare worker worth their grain of salt knows “first do no harm” and would certainly understand quaranteen
.....yet these Progressive dingbats will shut down entirely ‘outdoor’ smoking per chance a waft of smoke might pass their noses!
...”Obama said doctors and nurses from the United States who have ‘volunteered’ to fight Ebola in West Africa are American heroes”....”
They volunteered that risk to themselves...I didn’t sign onto that risk. And three weeks in that country does not a “hero” make....especially when they come back and “lie” that they were treating Ebola patients like Dr. Doofas did....and then go bowling and ride trains while you’re coming down with the beast.
The Dr. would have never fessed up had the police not read his charge cards to see if or not he’d been out and about.
So far all the issues have come from medical workers...what does that say!
I couldn’t agree more.
Oh dear me...I'm aghast that we might make someone uncomfortable who “volunteers” ( but are paid while there and free travel to and from which isn't volunteering) to take a risk in treating a deadly disease in a foreign country but could care less how THEIR risk affects us all when they come back. Bull crap!
Whoever their “employer's” are should at least step up and say ...see you in 21 days!...and that does not mean a paid vacation touring the nation or city they are in!
“Pushing to confront Ebola at its West African source, President Barack Obama said Wednesday the United States was not immune to the disease but cautioned against discouraging American health care workers with restrictive measures that confine them upon their return from the afflicted region. “We can’t hermetically seal ourselves off,” he declared.
This way, they won’t have to travel far anymore to combat Ebola.
