The World Health Organization says the number of reported Ebola cases has surpassed 13,700, a jump of more than 30 percent since the last numbers were released four days ago.
Dr. Bruce Aylward, assistant director-general of the WHO, said the big jump in cases is likely due to previous under-reporting.
As of Wednesday, there have been 13,703 reported cases of Ebola, the organization tweeted, with 13,676 of those in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, the three most affected countries in this outbreak.
The fatality rate in those countries has remained consistently around 70 percent, Aylward said.
Speaking to reporters in Geneva, Aylward said there is some indication that safe burials and education efforts in Liberia are improving, but he cautioned against assuming that Ebola was coming under control there or in any of the three countries most affected by the disease.
He noted some encouraging signs, including the opening of the first community care center in Port Loko, Sierra Leone, a smaller facility designed to isolate and provide basic care to potential Ebola patients.

The trouble is we only have four bio-containment centers in the whole country...ones that would be 100% safe. Great. Where do we put them all, or, failing that, who picks who comes?
....”Whats alarming is the numbers theyll be posting in another month, 3 months, etc.”.....
I don’t think it really matters to them....it’s not about the people suffering there...it’s about control of the resources they want to cultivate in Africa, and this without the fear of disease.... and use of the millions pouring into Africa nations now.
Remember Obama just had the Africa Summit...and said it was his focus...and here we are....with our military there and this disease it’s pushed back the fighting.....and we’re “building “ there now.
There have been efforts with videos, other presentation formats and on-site instruction distributed to the population there on how to more safely do body removals and burials. Much safety and sanitation gear has also been distributed for those efforts. So with many nursing and burying their own in their own communities, not so much reporting is happening. They’re very busy.
When it gets to 100,000 will they still say it’s due to under reporting?
I agree, because the actual numbers were not being done, so there is no telling how many died without being ‘on the list’ so to speak.
“Theres been a lot of concern that Liberia reporting was breaking down.”
It has broken down in Sierra Leone. It’s been 10 days since the government started saying to go home and die-in-place, we can’t help you.
Must be hundreds of unreported deaths by now.
I seriously call these figures BS.
All of a sudden, in the last 2 months the US is knee deep in Ebola. I don’t think so!
Thanks for the ping!
Bump for the latest info.
the number of cases have been doubling every month since may
500k cases at a minimum in 6months.
and that’s before the Americas get involved
the white horse is definitely mounted
the unofficial numbers are 3x higher then the official
they’re trying to deflect any blame while quelling panic
Always a good idea to read between the lines.
“the white horse is definitely mounted”

Yes, and we only wish we could hear the manly voice of Clayton Moore and the dashing sound of the William Tell Overture, sorry but it ain’t the same white horse I loved as a little boy.
