DENVER Results for a new standardized test for science and social studies came in on Monday and they likely put frowns on educators and parents.
...
Just 17 percent of Colorado fourth- and seventh-graders scored strong or distinguished on social studies tests.
Those are the scores necessary to for students to be considered on track to be ready for college and a career,
...
Achievement gaps still persisted between white and students of color.
For example, in fourth-grade social studies, 6 percent of Hispanic/Latino students and 7 percent of African-American students have strong or distinguished command of the subject. That compares with 24 percent of white students and 28 percent of Asian students.
For seventh-grade social studies, 6 percent of Hispanic, Latino, and African-American students ranked strong or distinguished, while 22 percent of whites and 34 percent of Asian students did.

They just need to make college easier.
Welcome to the land of common coresuck...I have a 12 and 9 year old in school taking this garbage. Mind you I have always been and ace in almost all levels of Mathematics. It was my favorite subject in high school and college. The math my children bring him and the terminology being utilized half the time appears to be made up junk and terms I’ve never run across. This common core will be the final nail in the coffin for any hopes of future generations.
The left relies on a permanant, dependent and VOTING FOR HANDOUT underclass to funnel money and provide power to the government at the detriment of those who do real work.
I bet they lead the nation in pot studies.
Could be a silver lining in those low scores on social studies considering the leftest, anti-American drivel taught in most SS and history classes in PC America.
of course. Everyone is stoned.
College and career, not preparation for life. Common Core to the core.
...and then there is the testing testing testing, commonly (no pun intended) called assessment. A very expensive and time consuming exercise in non education.
Good news! Scores are up on THC!
I think I see what the problem is:
“For example, in fourth-grade social studies, 6 percent of Hispanic/Latino students and 7 percent of African-American students have strong or distinguished command of the subject. That compares with 24 percent of white students and 28 percent of Asian students.
For seventh-grade social studies, 6 percent of Hispanic, Latino, and African-American students ranked strong or distinguished, while 22 percent of whites and 34 percent of Asian students did.”
too much dope
I bet they lead the nation in pot studies.
Yep. You have identified the problem.
The white kids are distorting the curve to the upside.
Continue to dumb them down and dope them up and equality will eventually be achieved.
You’re right; rather than do anything to fix the scores of the darker underclass they are now focused on removing any advantage for Anglo and Asian students that apply themselves.
I know some Anglos that make their living as “departmental scribes”; they are the only people in their departments that can read & write English fluently. Not that they are the only whites; they are just among the dwindling number of whites here in NJ that are native speakers of English.
and work too...
Thanks I forgot how important that is too.
According to a teacher, the kids were tested for three weeks straight and by the time they had to take these particular tests, they couldn’t have cared less. Also, the tests were computerized and the kids didn’t have the typing skills need to keep up.
Seems like the schools are now just testing centers for the kids.
I predict it will be the nail in the coffin for any politician who promulgates it.
