The father of a La Plata High School student has been barred from the school grounds after officials said he threatened to disrupt the school environment.
Kevin Wood was issued a no-trespass order last week after a telephone call with La Plata High Vice Principal Shannon Morris on Thursday. Wood called to air complaints regarding his daughters world history assignment that asked students to examine elements of the Islamic religion.
Morris and La Plata High Principal Evelyn Arnold reported to the Charles County Public Schools central office that Wood in his phone call had threatened to upset the school environment in some way Monday, according to school spokeswoman Katie OMalley-Simpson. OMalley-Simpson declined to elaborate on what threats Wood had made.
If the trespass order is ignored, police could be called and have the violator removed.
We dont take that lightly, said OMalley-Simpson. We have a lot of students, and safety comes first. We dont allow disruptions at the schools, especially if were forewarned of them.
Wood, a former corporal with the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was enlisted for eight years, said in an interview Monday afternoon outside of the school systems central office that he did not wish for his daughter, a junior at La Plata, to learn the Islamic religion, a faith he does not believe in, he said.

Questions that should have been asked:
1) What did Mohamed do the the people who made fun of him?
2) How old was his youngest bride?
3) How did he treat the Jews?
4) What is an Islamist? What are their battle tactics?
5) Who are the Sunnis and who are the Shiites?
6) What caused the Crusades?
7) Many, many more non-pc
There exists here in Charles County, a Robert D. Stethem School.
Thanks for a tough job well done.
God’s Grace to You and Yours....
What is this homework from? It’s not linked on said article.
Where is it located? I remember back in early 2000s, the school board voted to not name an elementary school after him. We have a ball park that’s been named in his honor since his murder.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
I am going to irritate some people and ask why is it bad to teach about Islam?
This and that other story today about homework or study. There is nothing wrong on the face learning about other cultures, and religion is a big part of that.
The only realy problem is when the study becomes a celebration (as these libs like to say) and thus, a religion in itself.
By itself, though, learning about Islam is not bad.
How about the Muslim prayer rooms and foot baths, have a problem with those?
I would’ve filled it out and the answers would have undeniable meaning.
I know...... I recently traveled across the state end to end. I began across the bay where I purchased a “Don’t Tread on Me” yellow Gadsen like bumper sticker. Instead of a rattlesnake, it had a menacing blue crab.
I also saw but didn’t buy a T shirt saying “I’m not from Maryland, I’m from the Eastern Shore”
I also am acquainted with several dedicated Maryland Freepers that live in the badlands just north of DC. Their sanity is proven by their weekly visits to Walter Reed to show the flag and deny the territory to the Code Pink moonbats.
I would dare say that if you check the education standards of virtually every state, World History requirements would cover at least a cursory look at all the major world religions. Of course they do.
Of course parents have a right to review and critique and judge the way that information is presented, but if this guy is objecting to the subject matter alone, he’s being ridiculous.
Eight years and he got out a corporal? That’s...a lot.
