The Chatter: McConnell loans himself $1.8M, Grimes doubles down on false claim in ad and 'Pennsyltucky' woman
Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell is combating a new wave of Democratic spending in his race against Alison Lundergan Grimes by loaning his campaign $1.8 million, Politico reported Friday.
The Washington, D.C., outlet reported that McConnells personal contribution tops investments by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Senate Majority PAC totaling $1.5 million less than two weeks before the Nov. 4 election.
A campaign official told Politico McConnells loan reinforces the Senate Republican leaders view that the National Republican Senatorial Committees resources should be spent in other midterm elections rather than his own.
Sen. McConnell has maintained a longstanding personal commitment to his members that he wont draw any resources from the team, John Ashbrook, McConnells spokesman, told Politico. So hes going to match Obamas money men out of his own pocket.
McConnell holds an $800,000 cash advantage heading into the election, $5.2 million on hand compared to $4.4 million for Grimes, according to the latest campaign finance reports.
Coal keeps the Pinnochios coming
A Grimes ad blaming McConnell for the closure of one of two coal-fired units at Big Sandy Power Plant in Louisa, Ky., was given four Pinnochios by The Washington Post Thursday.
The newspapers fact checker Grimes should be ashamed of herself for airing an ad that doubles down on a falsehood of McConnell and his wife collecting $600,000 from anti-coal efforts and makes another highly questionable assertion that McConnell did not fight for scrubbers needed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions at the plant.
The ad can be seen here:

McConnell needs to lose.
If he goes I won't shed a tear.
Neither does McConnell. He's just getting a taste of his own medicine. I hope he goes broke trying to hold onto his seat.
BTW where do these Senators get these millions to loan to themselves? I make as much money as these Senators and I'm still a million bucks shy of being a millionaire.
and she’s the best one to loose to. she’d be mince meat if someone like Cruz ran against her.
Oh yes - let’s get those Lundergan tentacles in everything for another several decades rather than vanquishing them.
They both are awful. Grimes is Obama’s lying shadow. We all know what Mitch is. I hope he goes broke defending his seat. I would not vote for Grimes. She would be entrenched for many years.
It must be nice to have $1.8 million you can spare.
Politicians tell us they want to go to Washington to do well.
Once they get there almost all of them do very well.
The posers are back - claiming the only solution is to get as many ultra-liberals elected as possible, including a huge boost to the Lundergans so they can use their new found power to take over everything...again.
Such “true conservatives” - communism or bust for them.
Oh yes, let's have McConnell who will only stand up to the Tea Party lead our hopefully new Republican majority.
These ads are all lies, it's typical Democrat hijinks, but that's the thing. They resonate instinctively with the LIVs and independents. Add to the fact that most of the conservative base is demoralized because the Republican leadership has crapped on them, refuses to stand up for principles, and have advocated the Republican candidates to use a "play it safe" strategy that Romney used to disastrous results.
If the GOP fails to take the Senate, all heads should roll at the RNC.
I make as much money as these Senators and I’m still a million bucks shy of being a millionaire.
Oh yes. Let's set up a big fat strawman argument and then beat it down.
When you are smart enough to articulate the McConnell-needs-to-lose position that you are against, please give me a ping.
Lending his campaign...
A McConnell loss will be worse for the Democrats than a McConnell win.
Go to Washington and do what you are told and you are assured of easy affluence for the rest of your life even if you lose your re-election. Buck the system i.e. stand on principle and you will be stuck with your salary and what you can invest yourself and no more.
Not to worry. There will be no Republican majority in the Senate. The GOPe and staunch conservatives will make sure of that.
McConnell vs. Grimes is like an inter-Islamic blood feud. Both sides will kill you at the first chance. Best to stay clear and let them sort that out.
lol. Blame conservatives because the GOPe are backstabbers?
