Jim Hagedorn says Rep. Tim Walz(D-Mn) wants to move Al Qaeda prisoners to Rochester(Mn)

Representative Tim Walz's republican challenger, Jim Hagedorn, is accusing Walz of wanting to move Al Qaeda prisoners to Rochester.

Hagedorn talked to the media outside Federal Medical Center in Rochester on Thursday. He said Representative Walz voted to close the Guantanamo Bay Prison and supports transferring what Hagedorn calls the worst Islamic terrorists on the planet into the US. Hagedorn goes on to say that Walz is open to bringing some of those prisoners to FMC in Rochester.

"The people of Southeast Minnesota, the people of Rochester, are protected by the Islamic terrorists in Guantanamo bay by 1,875 miles, an ocean, and about six barbed wires there on site," said Hagedorn. "If the Congressman has his way, they'll be right across the street in that facility, two miles from the door of the Mayo Clinic," he said as he pointed at FMC.

Hagedorn said he would not want Guantanamo closed, and would not support any of these high danger-level criminals coming into the country.

A spokesperson for Tim Walz released a response statement after Hagedorn's press event that read:

"These statements would be laughable if they weren't so reckless and desperate. Washington, D.C. blogger Jim Hagedorn, who has never served a day in uniform, has zero credibility on national security issues. Tim Walz, a 24 year veteran of the National Guard and the highest-ranking enlisted soldier to serve in Congress, will always fight to keep America safe."

Gitmo detainees in Rochester? Walz said he is open to it
http://postbulletin.typepad.com/political_party/2009/06/gitmo-detainees-in-rochester-walz-said-he-is-open-to-it.html

U.S. Rep. Tim Waltz said on Wednesday he would support having Guantanamo Bay detainees housed at Rochester’s Federal Medical Center provided certain qualifications are met.

“If all the procedures are in place as they have done with everyone else, if we’re very clear on what the legal avenues are that these people have, I think our professionals there can handle it,” the Democrat said.

Klobuchar disagrees with Walz on Guantanamo detainees
http://politicalblogs.startribune.com/bigquestionblog/?cat=50

“There is no place in Minnesota for prisoners from Guantanamo,” Klobuchar told the paper. “We do not have the high-security facilities needed to hold these detainees.”

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Walz said that Minnesota facilities like the Federal Medical Center in Rochester have held high-level terrorists in the past and are capable of handling Guantanemo Bay detainees.

Well, it’s easier than moving half the population of Minnesota to Gitmo.

I think the GITMO boys should be given jobs cleaning Nancy Pelosi’s and Harry Reids homes.. I bet their grandchildren could also use some babysitters.
