Someone drove a car up on the lawn of the state Capitol building Thursday night and smashed into a controversial Ten Commandments monument, breaking the stone slab into several pieces, state officials said.
The person who did it fled and has not been found, Oklahoma Highway Patrol spokesman George Brown said Friday.
This wasnt a case of a car taking a wrong turn, but a purposeful act, said John Estus, spokesman for the Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services. Whoever did it repositioned some ramp equipment that happened to be outside the building and used it to get access to the area near the monument.
Its not clear if the monument is repairable, Estus said.
The monument was donated by a state representative amid opposition that placement of a religious artifact near the Capitol was not proper.

A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word 'darkness' on the walls of his cell.

...smashed into a controversial Ten Commandments monumentI guess nowadays, stating things like "thou shall not kill", "thou shall not steal", or "honor your Mother and Father" are controversial.

Is there no surveillance video near the area to help identify the automobile if nothing else?

Great headline.
“Car smashes...”
like “Gun goes on killing spree...”
No, a nutjob uses a car to smash.

The commandments have been broken before. Look at Adam and Eve.

“Did God get Moses for smashing the commandments?”
Got him a second set, IIRC.
For all the good it did.

The commandments have been broken before. Look at Adam and Eve. You need to re-read your Bible. The Ten Commandments didn't exist until Moses received them. And I'm pretty sure they've been broken plenty of times.

The 11th commandment is:
“Thou shalt not smash the 10 commandments with thy chariot”

Must have thought he was Moses.

It is absolutely appalling that someone would vandalize anything at the Oklahoma State Capitol the Peoples Building much less a monument of such significance. Wait'll the Satanists get their monument installed.

Well, Moses did it once..................

Amen!
It will get sorted out in the end.
I don't get it - if atheists don't believe in God, why are they so bothered by it.
If they don't get, or want, the theology can't they just treat Christianity historically? If they think Christianity is mythology. just leave Christians alone and go about their special beliefs and whatever they worship.
Nonbelievers should just GET OVER IT..............!

"Did God get Moses for smashing the commandments?"
--------------------------------------->
I feel so "ignant" here.
I THINK AND IIRC: Moses brought the tablets down but he saw the heathens, who, in his absence, had built a golden calf to worship.
They had turned their backs away from God and an angry Moses smashed the tablets.
Man, I really have some reading and studying to do!
I should know this by heart for all of my reading. Guess I need a better way of learning!

Don't feel too bad about it; I recently read Genesis to my dying Grandfather (and did some reading in Exodus for some sermons) &mdashh; so it's kind of recently in-mind.

Thanks, OneWingedShark! You know what kind of Bible is the best?
