Billionaire Paul Allen says he'll contribute at least $100 million to the fight against Ebola.

The Microsoft co-founder said Thursday that among the initiatives he's supporting is the development of two medevac containment units that the U.S. State Department can use to safely evacuate health workers who become infected.

Allen, who is worth more than $15billion, said he's working with the World Health Organization to increase its capacity for handling the logistics of transporting international aid workers, and he's establishing a fund to help cover the costs of emergency transportation of the workers.

Amen! I could care less what he does with HIS WEALTH...I don’t need to track it I don’t need updates about it...care where it goes etc. If he wanted to burn it in the middle of times square hell I’d go and roast marshmallows :-) bottom line it’s his money...who are we to say where he sends it :-) he is generous and to that I’m thankful

“$100 million bucks can spark a lot of economic activity.”

The $100 million was already “sparking” where it was.

If this rich clown wants to really hit Ebola he needs to organize teams to kill and eradicate fruit bats as much as possible. The kind that live in African caves. Go in with flame throwers, poison them, dynamite cave entrances etc etc.... Whatever it takes.

Fruit bats are Ebola reservoirs. Get rid of them and the Ebola threat goes down 90%

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Paul Allen is developing a LOT of business and research property in Seattle. I think it is just the buildings, but he may finance/own some of the companies as well.

I didn’t read the article, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he dumps a lot of money into this research as well in order to make a buck on devices, medical discoveries, etc.

Generous? He’s worth around 16 billion. He makes 100 million in a little over 3 hours.

I agree. Look no farther than Yasser Arafat, to find billions tucked away in HIS accounts in Europe.

To top it all off, the very people we give assistance to hate our guts. What did the billions given to the Arabs on the West Bank and Gaza do for us? Did it buy any respect?

Plus, giving the enemy of your ally massive funds is just plain stupid.

Well he does have bad teeth which is a sign of poverty so maybe that 16 billion is monopoly money.
