The three-way race for South Dakotas open Senate seat got more complicated Wednesday, when the Sioux Falls Argus Leader published a page one story alleging that former Governor Mike Rounds, the Republican candidate and current leader in the polls, had approved $600,000 in state assistance to a company that was about hire a member of his cabinet.
According to reporter David Montgomery, then Secretary of Tourism and State Development Richard Benda requested the assistance for Northern Beef Packers about two weeks before he and Rounds were to leave office. Benda was about to go to work for a company with an investment in the plant something Montgomery reports that Rounds knew while he remained in office, either at the time he signed off on the assistance, or shortly thereafter.
The article quotes Rounds saying, My staff told me that when he was leaving state government, he was going to work for an investor in the beef plant.
Rounds now says that his former Tourism Secretary misled him. Benda, who later faced accusations that, once in the private sector, he had redirected state grant money to pay his own salary, committed suicide in October 2013.
South Dakota, originally seen as a near-certain pickup for Republicans in the race to gain control of the Senate in the 2014 elections, has become far more competitive than many expected, and the new revelations about Rounds could have an impact on a race that will likely be won by a candidate who receives less than 40 percent of the vote.

Slimeball tactics fmor the leftwing hypocrites in the MSM.
This when the president himself is about to violate the Constitution in a way not seen since the damn thing was written and approved.
...at least he isn’t a witch. /s
Since Lincoln anyways.
He should throw it back at them and say; “At least I didn’t send guns to drug cartels, or have state agencies go after political opponents. As far as a conflict of interest goes, this is pretty small potatoes.
Project Veritas Action and O’Keefe do the same thing.
The Republicans are not as good at it.
I’ll BET it’s not a TRUE story!!!
While I do not disagree with you, let’s be honest, we are going to be seeing a lot of this over the next 13 days. The dirty tricks from the left, the media will dig up everything they can on everyone that can have an impact on taking the Senate, and they will ignore every dirty thing the Dems do. You see very little about the machines changing votes from R to D and you see very little about the voters on the rolls in the Bronx who are 160 years old. The left will stop at nothing to try and keep their control of the Senate and that doesn’t just include the media, it is especially the media.
And what O'Keefe has revealed is in an entirely different category from the Mickey Mouse bullish*t the democrats and their media whores pull out at election time.
I've read the charges, they are indicative of alot of whats wrong with politics today, but they are Mickey Mouse.
Did Romney kill someone’s wife again? /s
“Oh s**t! Here we go again. Thanks GOP Establishment for giving us another one of your guys with baggage. “
The proper question is this:
Why would you believe a pile of crap propaganda from a leftist liar?
Get ahold of yourself.
Fake, but accurate!
The Democrat papers always sit on these stories until ten days before the election so they can do the most damage. Remember the NYT and Washington Post breaking the Bush DUI story the weekend before the election? Never mind that it had happened some thirty years ago, Then all the other papers and TV can pick the story up and keep it going till election day.
You can’t belong to the GOPe unless you are dirty.
Exactly! When oh when do we stop supporting the GOPe? Probably never.
Sources don’t matter. Facts matter and this one, from all I’ve read, appears factually accurate. It’s how I used jailhouse snitches for MANY a conviction.
The Democrats play to win. The GOP not so much.
I was recently in SD. Neither candidate runs ads saying they are Democrat or Republican. In fact non of the signs have a party affiliation. It was rather confusing.
My guess is that when the voters go to the polls they will vote the same way as they always have. It’s a wash.
Only republicans get vetted
“Sources dont matter. Facts matter and this one, from all Ive read, appears factually accurate.”
You know what I think about you, RightwardHo. Peddle your left wing crap elsewhere.
