In defense of the USAF.

Have you ever watched the movie or read the book A Bridge to Far?

If you have no or time delayed communication with the people you are dropping to, some times they are not where you expected them to be. Drops to US troops usually have good communications and precision location data on the drop site. The USAF can drop a pallet into the tennis court of your choice, but only if they know where it is. Seen it.

The guidance package for that kind of drop is expensive though and the AF likes them to be recovered. Dumb drops do tend to disperse somewhat the higher the drop is made from. The more ground fire the higher the drop will be made from.

Yes I did see the movie “A Bridge Too Far”.

However, technology has changed A LOT over the last 70 years since World War II.

Keep in mind too the military, technology wise, is 20 years ahead of what’s available in the public.

So like I said I am not buying “it’s an accident” B.S. from the same group of people that brag they can pin point targets.

Well, fighting from the air is a huge liability. Air is supposed to be support for the ground, not the whole combat effort.
