Oscar de la Renta has died at the age of 82.
His wife Annette confirmed that the legendary fashion designer passed away at his Kent, Connecticut home on Monday.
De la Renta was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, however a cause of death is yet to be revealed.
He is survived by both Annette and his adopted son Moises - a designer at the label.
Company executives Alex and Eliza Bolen said in a statement that De la Renta died surrounded by family, friends, and 'more than a few dogs'.
The statement also read: 'While our hearts are broken by the idea of life without Oscar, he is still very much us. Oscar's hard work, his intelligence and his love of life are at the heart of our company.
'All that we have done, and all that we will do, is informed by his values and his spirit. Through Oscar's example we know the way forward. We will make Oscar very proud of us by continuing in an even stronger way the work that Oscar loved so much.'

His designs were well worth it.

I was walking along Madison Avenue the other day and passed his store. There was the most beautiful gown in the window - a ball gown. It was an amazing shade of brown (!) but with gold braiding from the hem to the bodice. It must have been silk taffeta. Do you know that all the other stores on that famous block looked like fashions for Eleanor Roosevelt? RIP Mr. De la Renta.

Wish I could have seen that dress. I actually love brown, if it’s the right shade. Dark hair, fair skin, and a deep espresso brown is gorgeous, IMO.
I think many young females are herd animals, desperate to fit into the group, and will do anything, anything, that Cosmopolitan magazine tells them to do.
I first saw the dynamic when on the first day back in high school all the girls had the same hairstyle, an insouciant (sp?) pony tail meant to look spontaneous but upon inspection very carefully executed. And all the pony tails looked exactly the same. It was then that I began to understand the power of Cosmo.
I am raising my daughter to be the antithesis of that.

I work with some grown women who have NO clue how to conduct themselves in public and consciously TRY to achieve the slattern appearance.
Looking disheveled and dirty is not feminine, and I really think it sends a wrong signal to guys.
The ladies I work with are loud and crass at all times so I avoid them. I always say they went to the Tonya Harding school of etiquette.
Beautiful, classy designer. He made women look so elegant and feminine. I loved his work. This is a real loss to the fashion world. RIP Sir.

Oh, I just saw it, thanks. It’s gorgeous, although I’m not really a fan of the bouffant crinoline-type skirt. The blue one is lovely, too.
Google Oscar De La Renta ball gown images. There are several model wearing them - you can see if from front and back if you flip through the images. The gold is really like golden thread embroidered into leafy tendrils. Gorgeous.
