Ebola: What Would George Washington Do?
Real Clear Politics ^ | 10-19-14 | Carl M. Cannon

As a nervous nation watches the Obama administration’s response to the Ebola crisis, many Americans have concluded that the country’s top health officials seem more concerned with stopping the spread of panic than stopping the spread of the virus. But Americans’ fear is only growing, and one reason is that too few people believe what the president of the United States says anymore.

A recent poll asked Americans this question: “How often does Barack Obama lie to the country on important matters?” Not about sex. Not about whether he really likes baseball. Not whether he still cadges an occasional cigarette when Michelle isn’t looking. But whether he dissembles on important matters. The dismaying answers: 37 percent said “most of the time,” another 24 percent said “some of the time” and 20 percent said “only now and then.”

Fifteen percent—and God bless them for their loyalty—answered “never.” Perhaps they missed it when the president said that if they liked their health plan under Obamacare they could keep it. Maybe they missed the administration’s repeated claims that the fatal attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was a spontaneous reaction to an Internet video. Maybe they really believe that the IRS targeting of conservatives was, as the president put it, dreamed up by “two Dilberts in Cincinnati.”

But enough people did hear those statements, and found them wanting, that the president’s credibility has taken a hit at the precise time when a medical crisis confronts the country, and when placing trust in the men and women running this government is a life and death question.

I’m reminded of another president—Obama’s predecessor, in fact—whose ability to lead was impaired during his last two years in office by voters’ lack of trust.

Only divine intervention could make Obama an honest man.

Washington would take a horsewhip to Obama and escort him out of the White House. But in an exquisitely polite manner, of course.

Rampant dishonesty in our day—by politicians and voters alike—is in large part due to the effects of postmodern philosophy, which foolishly tells us there’s no such thing as truth. (no truth = no lies)

Postmodernism is at its very core nothing more than a sociopathic trait.

It’s all about being able to get away with lying.

All leftists (and all republicans and conservatives who think it’s ok to lie) are themselves victims of a greater lie.

Does it mean they’re stupid?

Yes.

The Congress and Senate of George Washington’s time, would go full-on Spanish Inquisition on Obola, Holder, Garrett, Rice, and Samantha ‘whatshername’. The Anniversary of that Inquisition would then become a new National Holiday called “Revenge and Comeuppance Day’.

Well, back at the time of America’s founding, shutting down public institutions, even schools being shut down, was the norm. They would restrict travel. What’s interesting is that even Obama has done a 180 on his own campaign promises for contagious disease. He promised travel restrictions, but now we don’t even get a common sense approach.

After the slaughter of Foot Hood the biggest concern Obama and the MSM had was that an 'islamaphobe' would hurt a Muslim. It did NOT happen. It was a lie to slander the victims of Fort Hood and their families..

Boston Marathon Killing Field was the same - the BIG concern was islamaphobes'... It was a lie to slander the victims of the bombing and their loved ones.

Number of Americans killed by radical Muslims in the last 30 years: thousands.

Number of American Muslims killed by 'islamaphobes' in the last 30 years: ZERO.

The new 'panic' meme liberals are putting out is the same...

Democrats are aiming their hatred at people who are concerned about protecting their families. If Democrats had a slogan it would be 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' because that slogan works for the stupid, the sociopathic and those who crave control parents of the next generation.

Number of people in Africa and the United States (together) killed by Ebola - THOUSANDS.

Number of people in the United States and Africa killed by 'panic': ZERO

Conservative sheeple think he would have implemented a police state to “combat disease”.

Did not George Washington ban smallpox vaccinations because some of the troops were dying after getting vaccinated?

In those days, you took a healthy man with a weak case of smallpox, stuck a needle into one of his sores, then pricked a healthy person to give them immunity. Sometimes it did not work.

Pastor Johnathan Edwards died of such a vaccination.

The former president of the Constitutional Convention would also explain how under the NBC clause Obama never had the right to be there. All the actions of his administration were thus null and void, all his appointees no longer worked for the government and had no further claim on the public purse. Having slain the Obama dragon in one stroke President George would then start hewing away at the unconstitutional actions of the prior two centuries. Realizing from his experience fighting King George, that he couldn’t win them all as quickly.

First thing Washington would have done is quarantine Ebola just like they did any deadly disease through out history until horrid, treasonous presidency.

Any ship coming into harbor from an infected area would not be allowed to dock until a quarantine period had elapsed without sickness.

This what New York did but only after many many people were sicken and many died of typhoid caused bu 1 person named Mary.

Think of that nurse flying around or obama sending thousands of Americans without protection to Africa and refusing to stop travel from those infected countries.

Almost 30 years in isolation! There are some who suggest that the new W.H.O. 42 days isolation for Ebola is too much to bear...

Did not George Washington ban smallpox vaccinations ...

Did he? Saw a discussion on BookTV a year or so ago on vaccinations in Colonial America, and according to the author, GW told his stepson to ignore Martha, and get the inoculation.

I don't think the troop thing came up.

"Vaccination" hadn't been invented yet. What they had was "variolation" (smallpox = variola) which was what as you described. It worked because skin routes of infection took longer to kill than the usual respiratory routes, allowing the immune system time to respond. It did have a mortality risk, but one significantly smaller than the natural disease on the average. Smallpox was so contagious that those not already immune were likely to get the natural disease during an outbreak so the risk, on the average, was worth it. The colonies had 70 years experience validating variolation as a concept.

Washington had survived a fairly bad case of smallpox as a young man. My understanding is he supported variolation, ordering it for the Continental army in 1775. Maybe there were incidences of it being done improperly that lead to temporary exceptions; I don't know about any. Early in the war we lost our chance to conquer Quebec due to smallpox ravaging our forces. I'm still unsure whether to count that as a plus or a minus for smallpox. But I don't think smallpox had near as much effect later in the war.
