Thousands of passengers are trapped aboard a Carnival Magic cruise ship with a Dallas health worker who may have handled specimens from Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian patient with Ebola who later died at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.
The US Centers for Disease Control alerted the cruise operator on Wednesday that a passenger on the ship was a lab supervisor at the hospital where Duncan was treated, USA Today reports.
The unnamed woman, who was traveling with her husband, has agreed to remain isolated in a cabin, the State Department said in statement, while the cruise line and the US government are working to bring the employee back to America.
The employee, who does not have a fever or shown any signs of illness, did not come into direct contact with Duncan but may have processed some of the patient's fluid samples, The New York Times said.
In a statement to USA Today, Carnival said that, "At no point in time has the individual exhibited any symptoms or signs of infection, and it has been 19 days since she was in the lab with the testing samples."
Although the health worker appears to be a very low risk for Ebola, the Belize Government will not allow the ship to dock, The Washington Post reports.

But, but....what about my hurt feelings?
Friedan commented “How can we possibly keep Ebola out of Belize if you won’t let these people into Belize?”
Why are these people even being allowed to travel? The stupid no longer just burns, it kills.
When one “maybe” starts impacting a half billion dollar business (a big cruise ship is just that) and 3 thousand other people....that’s the kind of thing that can spiral into an economic disaster.
The JV team is on it!
It has been 19 days since the passenger may have processed Duncans fluid samples, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement early Friday morning. The cruise line has actively supported CDCs efforts to speak with the individual, whom the cruise ships medical doctor has monitored and confirmed was in good health. Following this examination, the hospital employee and traveling partner have voluntarily remained isolated in a cabin.
Figures it would be Carnival!
Carnival for viruses....
Notice the main story uses the term ‘partner’. (Homo agenda)
Later in the story it was identified as spouse.
The MSM wants to eliminate the word ‘spouse’ from dictionary.
Bet theres a few passengers a little PO’ed at this woman
This story is screwy. If the nurse is not exhibiting any symptoms, then why all the fuss?
FYI, Cruise ships that visit Belize cannot ever “dock”.
The shoreline along that area is too shallow and filled with many small islands. Ships have to weave themselves through very tight channels among the Islets and then drop anchor about 5 miles off shore.
Passengers are transported to land by ship’s tenders and land based speedy transports. The trip takes about 30 minutes to get from the anchorage to shore.
You’re kidding, right?
Ebola can incubate for up to 21 days before any symptoms appear. There is probably nothing to worry about but they are erring on the side of caution as opposed to what we are doing in this country which appears to be throwing caution to the wind, at least so far.
Same point.
It’s basically in the Belize statement.
You could not PAY me to take a Carnival cruise.
Here’s the thing- I am completely confident that if a passenger called the cruise line and explained the situation, the cruise line would have graciously allowed the passenger to reschedule their trip with no penalty.
WTF is wrong with people???!!!!!
The next generation will assume that John Wayne was a homo.
I have said it before, these events are proving our government is now not even on par with a 3rd world government.
We are screwed.
I’m thinking that she had no idea.
She was doing her job and processed a lab sample. Judging by the time frame, it would’ve been when he was first admitted and they were sending his stuff through the tube system. Before they got confirmation of Ebola and actually tried to lock things down.
The CDC is still playing catch-up.
The woman should go to jail.
