This is wishful thinking. The chances of America electing a conservative who cuts back on all the government that Obama (and Bush, for that matter) added is slim to none. We may get a Republcian government, but it will be like the Bush Republicans who explain why they can’t get rid of Obamacare while they are piling on more programs and spending. The ever-expanding state never ends well and usually ends in revolution and civil war.

It will take a catastrophe to modify the course of this country,
as well as the rest of the Western Civilizations.

And it is coming, late 2015 I think...
10’s of millions of people will die in the process.

That is because, since Clinton v. Bush41 the “prize” in any/every federal election is the entirety of the Federal Treasury “to be used by the victor as a campaign fund”. That “prize” concept is trickling down to local politics (can you say Coleman Young? Can you say Kwami Kilpatrick? I knew you could.)

Both (R) and (D) see this as their goal...not governing...not legislating...not defending the republic; simply, winning and then getting all that money (what, $50Trill?) to spend - ON THEMSELVES!

I agree with you. The progressives are not, “losing their grip,” on the democrat party. They’re merely loosening it while they’re busy absorbing the republican part as well.

Right. When did Republicans ever cut anything? The best they ever go for is a cut in the rate of growth. And we see where that cowardly strategy has gotten us. Even Ragan bragged that his tax cuts would bring in more money for the federal monster.

True conservatism, and its benefits, is no longer understood by most Americans. Thank our pubic ed teachers and media mouths for this. Before them, our teaching universities (especially Columbia). Before them, The Frankfurt School.

Since conservatism has been so ignored, misrepresented and demonized by the above cretins for decades, who do we expect to vote for it?

The time to avert this has, sadly, passed. Our WWII vets watched it happen (sorry, it's true, sports beat politics), let the communist-led young ones have their way, not believing America could actually be taken down from within, as we were told long ago. This cancer has metastasized. Now what?

True. We have not had a conservative president since Reagan left town in 1989, and doubt we'll get one next.
