AUSTIN, Texas -- Houston Mayor Annise Parker has backed down from the subpoenas the City of Houston issued to several area pastors, Breitbart Texas has learned.
Breitbart Texas reported earlier about the controversy, stemming from litigation challenging the city's anti-discrimination ordinance and subpoenas asking the pastors for the content of their sermons, speeches and communications with church members. Texas Senator Ted Cruz weighed in, firmly supporting the pastors in their efforts to fight the subpoenas, while Mayor Parker initially remained adamant that the city had the right to request those records. Despite posting comments on Twitter just hours before that seemed to indicate she would continue to fight this issue, she told a Houston radio station that she has changed her mind.

>Anyone that goes on other sites apart from FR will know there are a good proportion of people out there who absolutely hate Christianity and would be happy for this to pass muster. I see British Actors/Comedians and even those here in Australia lampooning Christians in the most vicious manner and audiences seem to love it. Lefties are empowered by this stuff and they sometimes over reach a little early but believe me the world is heading this way rapidly. When they know they are clearly in the majority they will enforce these things and they will bend and twist the constitution to do it.
>We are heading towards a time of persecution - how long it takes to reach physical action on behalf of the state I dont know but before that, even now, they are already using the law to oppress Christian Liberty. Unions and leftie orgs. like Code Pink will only be happy when the government starts handing them their brown shirts!
Let's send a very clear message to Houston and the nation. Please, please share this with your family and friends and church members Stand together people of faith!
Amen!
Your absolutely right! We are born with a conscience!!! Try as hard as one will to run from it, they know they are wrong...
Every Houston pastor should sue the city for 1st amendment violation of their rights!!!!
Sue them one by one every week until the City goes bankrupt and Houston voters get a new Mayor...
Please consider signing the Ted Cruz #StandWithPastors online petition: http://www.tedcruz.org/stand-pastors
I am all for signing a petition but I don’t like giving my cell phone. That’s a little bit too personal for me.
Cell Phone is optional.

Thank you.
I totally predicted they wouldn’t stop this.
"University of Houston law professor Peter Linzer says the city reached too far in issuing the subpoenas. One subpoena sent to Pastor Steve Riggle, for example, asks for 'all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to [the equal rights ordinance], the petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity.' However, Linzer says it wouldn't impinge on the pastors' First Amendment rights if the city only asked only for sermons or speeches related to the signature drive. 'Let's assume they gave instructions to cheat,' Linzer says. 'That would be relevant speech and I don't see how they would have any First Amendment protection for that.' "
You had better back off you no good, vile, fat-arse commie ______ Not knowing boundaries. A way of life for gays and liberals.
The crime is not being against the ordinance, it is saying something about it. If the Churches she's going after can't say anything bad, than other Churches can't say anything good.
Assult upon basic freedom of speech, she wants to spy on everyone to make sure they don’t say things she dont approve of.
That puts her in the same camp as a tyrant. That being said there is still the issue of perverts of Houston now having legal access to the lady’s bathrooms.
I sure am glad I don’t have to live in that city, I can’t imagin how anyone there is going to tollerate this sort of invastion of their own personal privacy.
I hope the Texas AG throws this would be despoit in jail. ‘she’ has gone too far. As for the Mayor’s bathroom she obvously doen’t have a problem with peeping toms, so long as they ‘claim’ they should be women.
“Perhaps this is why she backed off requesting the sermons. She must have felt pretty stupid after being told that theyre all completely available to her anyway!”
Not terribly concerned about that, except for what she obviously intends to do with that information.(persecute religious leaders for preaching anything she don’t like).
Private commutation with the PASTORS and church members is completely off limits to the Government. That is a fundamental violation of not only religious liberty but freedom of speech as well.
This dike is a totalitarian and she has just overplayed her hand. It’s time to pounce upon her and her fellow democrats as assulters of fundamental rights.
The leftists backed down. It’s a small victory.
THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They did not back down, as it stands, I think, the subpoenas are out they just removed the word “sermon/s” from it. Now it says “speeches”.
Epic indeed
The judge that approved them needs to be impeached.
