Colorado marijuana revenues hit a new high
New figures from the Colorado Department of Revenue show that recreational marijuana sales continued to climb in August, the most recent month for which data are available. Recreational sales totaled approximately $34.1 million in August, up from $29.3 million the previous month.
Medical marijuana also jumped sharply in August, after several months of flat or declining sales. Medical sales figures were just under the recreational total, at $33.4 million. One goal of creating Colorado's recreational marijuana market is to shift customers away from the medical market.
The numbers suggest that work remains to be done on that front. Part of the challenge is that medical marijuana is taxed at lower rates than recreational marijuana, leading to significant price differences.
Total tax revenues from medical and recreational marijuana continue to edge upward. The state took in about $7.5 million in revenues from both markets in August, or about $45 million year-to-date.

The only kind of good tax is when leftists tax their own kind. However they will overtax it like usual and then the black market kicks in to avoid it. Guarandamnteed.
I read the other day that the homeless population has increased by between 50% to 100%. And it is likely to rise even more.
Maybe one or two cold winters will take care of the problem? Colorado is not like CA.
And when people finally realize that MJ is just as bad for you as cigs (cancer, etc.), then the State can use that extra money to pay for the increased medical costs — exactly the same argument that they used to justify getting a cut of the tobacco litigation pie from a few years ago.
Eggs-Zactly.
The welfare roles will soon tell the true story. The unemployment figures will soon outweigh the temporary “benefits” the state is raking in by these stoners and dopers.
So a state is making money off destroying people’s brains.
How much does the State collect in tobacco tax?
I wonder if there are similar reductions in spending & resources for police, prosecutor & courts now that they spend less time harassing people, seizing money, breaking down doors & shooting dogs.
Heh, heh. Now THAT's funny right there. I don't care who you are.
[ Good. The State will have plenty of money to pay for the influx of freeloaders and dopers.

It is a government “circkle jerk”...
They Pay these low lifes to exist and they buy pot and pot gets taxes so the government has more money to pay the low lifes to exist....
So it is kinda how the fed and banks use a 10 dollars to create 10,000 dollars.. I call it...
Re-High-Pot-i-cation....
Colorado marijuana revenues hit a new high...no pun intended?
Recreational...? What in hell is recreational about smoking pot???
Then legalizing was a monetary success. Health, values, etc. were a major fail.
To some people, this was a good idea. It meant to them that the government will let people decide for themselves how to live their life. Unfortunately, today’s pot is much stronger than it was thirty years ago, the abuse of it is starting at an earlier age, the odds of addiction are going up (something like one in six, I’ve read), a mixed message is sent to all young people about drug abuse. Instead of encouraging self-control and virtue, the government itself in Colorado says it’s fine to be wasted and stoned; it’s recreational. So along with all of the problems that come from alcohol we’ll be tackling even more with health and social problems with marijuana in the mix.
That’s true.
Idiots like to compare smoking dope to drinking alcohol. But the questions still remains...
Do you drink to get drunk? No? Then its NOT the same.
“Recreational...? What in hell is recreational about smoking pot???”
Just like recreational meth, recreational crack, and recreational heroin.
Get with it, man this is the 21st century!
Sure, people just drink to relax. In other words, catch a buzz.
I must be old school...This PC bullshit still means your getting stoned and walking into walls.
One can smoke a little bit of marijuana and get slightly intoxicated. Or they can smoke a lot and get very intoxicated.
One can drink a little alcohol and get slightly intoxicated. Or they can drink a lot and get very intoxicated.
Are you not aware of this?
Yup. What will the State do when money runs short?
And with it, will likely come other nastier drugs. I watched a show the other night about a kid who was hooked on heroin. Very sad story and no doubt the kid is NOT a productive, hardworking, tax paying citizen.
Guess where he got his start? — with pot. And he even tossed in a little pot into his drug cocktail right before he was to head out for rehab.
They did pretty good with the tobacco litigation settlement. I don’t remember exactly how much. But it was a lot. And then they decided to spend it on infrastructure and pet projects versus helping the homeless and the addicted.
