It is National School Lunch Week, an occasion that could imply a celebration of, say, grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate milk. That is not the case, however, as the nation’s schools try to address new federal standards that call for healthier fare.
“We must address the visible realities of complying with school nutrition requirements,” says National School Boards Association executive director Thomas J. Gentzel, who has released a damning new survey that finds eight out of 10 American schools now reporting increased food waste, and increased costs. Three fourths also report “lesser participation” from the kids themselves.

In elementary school in the ‘50s, I brought my lunch to school in Lone Ranger lunch pail containing either a bologna sandwich with Miracle Whip on white bread or a peanut butter sandwich with potato chips. During recess we could buy regular (full fat) milk or chocolate milk for 5 cents. Then topped it off with a Two-Bagger chocolate covered ice cream bar also just 5 cents.
Not only is that disgusting, (some patty on huge white roll, half an avodado, a packet of ketchup), it’s not particularly healthy.

You would think that the Democrats, esp. Mooschelle, would like kids to eat cheese because RATS always like cheese, govt surplus or not.
Hell, throw some bacon on that grilled cheese. Mighty good eatin’.
Try Swiss cheese and mayo or a Russian dressing on toasted rye. Sort of like a Reuben sandwich without the corned beef.
Still tastes good. I like “Finlandia Lite”. Best tasting Swiss cheese around, and half the calories of regular Swiss.
Buy two packs and you get a free Swiss Army knife (One can dream can’t we?)

Obviously healthy active children burn that stuff off during outside play period and sports. Get them away from the computers, video games, etc!!!
