The Ebola Factor: Rick Perry’s popularity soars with his decisive approach
The Washington Times ^ | October 12, 2014 | Jennifer Harper

Yes, the presence of a deadly disease in Texas has benefited a certain governor. What with intense and alarming media coverage of two Ebola cases in the Lone Star state, Gov. Rick Perry has risen to the opportunity and gotten decisive indeed. It has paid off. Republican attitudes toward Mr. Perry have “improved significantly,” says YouGov polling analyst Kathy Frankovic, who reports that Mr. Perry’s favorability ratings have quickly jumped 16 percentage points — rising from 51 percent in late September to 67 percent by late last week.

While President Obama has yet to appoint an Ebola “czar” to coordinate U.S. response to the disease, Mr. Perry has already launched the “Texas Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response,” complete with an aggressive emergency plan and hands-on director Dr. Brett P. Giroir, who warns of an “interconnected world” and vows that Texas is “fully prepared for the worst-case scenario, no matter what form that may take.”

Mr. Perry’s bodacious moves could burnish his image as a 2016 presidential hopeful, and those promising polling numbers should remain stable for a while, and possibly even improve. He should ready another kind of battle plan, though. None of this has been lost on his critics.

“The only ‘spread of Ebola’ in the U.S. was caused by a private hospital in a red state,” tweeted MSNBC host Joy Reid on Sunday.

For some strange reason Perry really really wants to go liberal on us every now and then. He must constantly be reigned in.

If he strays liberal when nobody’s paying attention then that’s his basic nature. He’s doing it when he can, and behaving as expected when observed.

Am just trying to reduce the erroneous claims, as the South Africans may put issue to that one.

Thanks for the correction. My pride in Texas is fact-based and when I do make a mistake, it does need to be pointed out. Again, it's very much appreciated, FRiend.

Proclaim something long and loud enough and fools will take it for the truth. You might even begin to believe it yourself.

Says who? You sure don’t speak for anyone, but yourself.

I dare say if Texans were polled, Perry would come in equal or better than he did when winning each Governor election.

That’s a start but not worthy of him being proclaimed a great leader and decisive.

Rick Perry would not have won the Governor’s Primary.

All his support had eroded from continued big government style decisions.

No conservatives were behind him.

Lots of RINOs, but no conservatives..

Hey, it’s OK if you are more of a republican than a conservative. But Most of Texas Republicans are conservatives first, and republicans second. As a reminder, they used to vote democrat before the demise of the conservative wing of the democratic party.

So you don’t like Perry, you already told me that.

Where did I say that I don't like Rick Perry? As I recall, I said that he's a liberal, and a politician first.

For the record, I like Perry in the same way that I like Dubya. Heck, I voted for both of them twice. They're both fine men, but far from being conservatives. I'd trust either of them before I'd trust any Democrat, but not by much.

Why are you insisting I repeat my response to something you already posted? Did you not read me the first time?

“My pride in Texas is fact-based and when I do make a mistake, it does need to be pointed out.”

Me too, and am proud to find a like mind.

Go way back as my kin was an early mayor of Austin prior to the Civil War. Was a proud man too as, while mayor, he killed a man who picked a fight with him on Congress Avenue in a gunfight.

Ansel, I gave you my opinion of Perry and his so-called 'task force'. If you don't like my opinion, that's fine and dandy, but this asinine back-and-forth is a complete waste of time.

We're done.

Yes you did respond to post 11 that didn’t mention Perry but did mention national defense, with your personal opinion on Perry, and you never let up.

My one sentence comment in post 11. “”Fantastic, we need some serious attention paid to this aspect of national defense, some real serious attention, and some concrete changes made.””

I wish that were possible, but I believe that both can not come from the same state -— or am I wrong??? - LTC.Ret
They can come from the same state. But it is better if they come from different states with separate constituencies.
The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves
Not too good, if the electors of Texas have to vote for someone other than your VP candidate if you win the state . . .

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
