Miami Beach cops to overhaul vehicle shooting rules [Thugs Now Allowed to Run Cops Over]
Miami Herald ^ | 10/10/14 | CHARLES RABIN AND JOEY FLECHAS

Miami Beach police officers will no longer treat a moving car as a deadly weapon — meaning officers won’t be allowed to shoot at one unless someone inside displays a weapon or opens fire first.

The deadly force policy change — expected to be unveiled by Police Chief Dan Oates next week — comes more than three years after the high-profile Memorial Day weekend shooting of motorist Raymond Herisse. He died in a bullet-riddled blue Hyundai targeted by 116 police rounds, which also wounded four innocent bystanders.

Which cop will be the first to be run down by a thug? Who is the sacrificial scapegoat on the Miami Beach police force?

Then suddenly the policy will change. Again.

All because of the race baiting.

The police have all kinds of military-grade equipment -- but they aren't about to waste any of that stuff on thugs in cars.

It's intended strictly for uppity citizens.

Might be this little bit that had something to do with it “...targeted by 116 police rounds, which also wounded four innocent bystanders...”

Cops had to be reigned in. If you tell them it’s ok to view cars as deadly weapons then they shoot the crap out of cars.

No common sense applied. So if cops want to have broad powers then they need to be smart about when and how they use those broad powers. Otherwise Police will find themselves without broad powers.

Possibly, though that was during a time when the streets were crowded with people and they were apparently trying to eliminate an unknown threat who could have run over lots of people in his car.

But that would never happen in Miami Beach on Memorial Day’s Urban Thug weekend, would it?

Oh, wait....some guy had his FACE EATEN OFF a couple years later during that same Thug celebration.....

I appreciate what you’re saying, and in many cases I agree.

My point is, this gives a green light to the thugs to run cops over....

Several times in the past few years Miami cops (not Miami Beach) have shot and stopped felons who were fleeing the scene by trying to run over the police who were ordering them to stop.

This is not a good idea, imo. It will result in more dead cops, not dead perps.

We had a cop run down and killed by a couple of unarmed parolees here in Michigan a couple years ago. He was trying to get out of the way but they swerved and hit him.

What if the person in the car is using it to run over people as in a sudden jihad syndrome situation? Or there is a known car bomb being driven by someone?

I for one think it is a good thing. There has been a terrible trend lately of cops opening fire on people who simply flee the officer in a vehicle. Too many officer then justify the shooting by saying the perpetrator was using a deadly weapon (car)against them and had to be stopped with deadly force, when in actuality it was just some scared stupid punk trying to get away, or a mentally disturbed woman who wouldn’t obey the policemans shouted orders, like that recent case in Washington where the confused and mentally ill woman was gunned down with her baby in the back seat.

I think every police department should have the Miami rule.

Ugh!
Ya know, I would fully support a law passed that grants more power to concealed carrying folks to assist in taking thugs like that out to defend an officer's (Or anyone else's) life.

If lawmakers would focus more on defending the innocent instead of regulating our behavior and protecting the thug, things like that would be far less frequent.

How many times do we see interviews of thugs in prisons saying that they are more afraid of armed citizens than they are of police?

We’ve had this policy in place for many years up here in NYC.

So they try to take our guns away and tell us we will protect you but they are emasculating law enforcement so they cant protect us either. We need change and not the sh## the rats are feeding us

Police chief James Craig in Detroit is a good pro self defense cop who often reminds thugs that citizens have a lot more freedom to shoot than cops do.

I don’t know.... 116 rounds but he couldn’t get out of the way????? Ok, I didn’t read the article yet. On the whole I would support the police on the street on this one, but the police are so criminal these days themselves, attacking and killing the innocents. Quite often.

I would rather have 10 dead cops than one dead bystander killed by stray rounds.

A cop being run down by a thug is a much much much much better outcome that say someone’s 7 year old out with his cousin being killed by police shooting into a vehicle driven by a scared 16 year old. The police sign up for danger. Your seven year old nor you do not when you let them go off with their cousin or other relative.

Shooting blindly into vehicles is a very dangerous thing. Try it yourself and see how much sympathy you will get from the cops.
