Someone posted this cryptic statement -- "Bsr et bn n8" -- on a memorial website to my late beloved girlfriend.
I put it through Google translate, which recognized it as French, and translated one of the "words" as "prayer."
I'm wondering if this is a standard statement of mourning in French, or some other language.
Has anyone seen this before? Any idea what it means?
The counter-sign is ‘And the Hawk Flies Low’.
NO DOUBT it's the work of some VERY bored, teenage, male mind...and it means NOTHING of import to the rest of the human race.
Are you sure?
I really thought it meant: "Dinner is ready."
Not French.
Twittard text speak.
n8 can be “neat”.
“Bonsoir et Bon Nuit.”
But it’s a reference to a song which is a prayer:
Good evening, and good night, watched over by roses covered with cloves, slips under the quilt! Tomorrow morning, if God wills, you will wake up again. Good night, good night, guarded by angels, that show you in a dream the tree of little Jesus: sleep now, blessed and gently look into the dreams of Paradise.
You couldn’t be more wrong. See my previous post.
Bn n8 == bonne nuit == good night?
The counter-sign is And the Hawk Flies Low.
Not, ‘The local train stops on the hour’?
I even put a cd of La Boheme on to see if it would provide any clues.
Nope.
So it’s not Itralian either.
Must be new age.
That’s beautiful; thanks for decoding.
I would just assume it to be someones prayer, (since you did get a little confirmation) and leave it at that.
Go over to
where this is written.....

bn n8 a ts.
“bn” may be “bon nuit” (good night), “a ts” may be “to you”.
Perhaps you could tweet the entire message and ask for the
English translation.
Don’t know about the rest but bn could mean bien in French, which means well, or good as opposed to evil.
Given the nature of the website and the profile of the people who would be likely to post there, I doubt it was some bored teenager.
She was in her mid-50s when she passed, and was a very accomplished internationally renowned award-winning classical musician. She was also head of the music department at a well-known Boston area university.
The hundreds of people who post at this website were family, friends, professional colleagues and students.
‘The counter-sign is And the Hawk Flies Low.
Not, The local train stops on the hour?’
I’m not sure anymore. My experience in the Polish underground is now some seventy years ago.
And you have MY prayers, for your terrible loss.
Oh my goodness; props to you for that. Here I was just having fun, and you have actually lived this type of thing. Bless you now & always.
I think y got it right.
