What the 'gay marriage' debate is really about
WND ^ | Oct. 10, 2014 | Matt Barber

Exclusive: Matt Barber warns, 'The courts are tossing around spiritual nitroglycerin'

It’s called Pandora’s Box.

And the Supreme Court just opened it.

Did you actually think the debate over “gay marriage” was about marriage? Have you really come to believe that this cultural kerfuffle has anything to do with “civil rights” or “equality”? Have you bought into the popular premise that this is a legitimate discussion on federalism – that it’s a reasonable disagreement over whether the U.S. Constitution’s equal protection clause requires that newfangled “gay marriage,” something rooted in same-sex sodomy, a deviant and disease-prone behavior our Constitution’s framers officially declared “the infamous crime against nature,” be made law of the land?

A lot of people have, so don’t feel bad. A lot of reasonable, well-meaning and even, at times, intelligent people have taken the bait.

But that’s all window dressing. It’s superficial. It’s collateral. It’s chaff, a diversion, a squirrel. Don’t chase it.

At its core, this increasingly heated fight over “gay marriage” is about two diametrically opposed and profoundly incompatible views of reality (or lack thereof). It’s the modern manifestation of a millennia-old clash between worldviews. This ugly cultural conflict is, in reality, neither legal nor political in nature, but, rather, is fundamentally a philosophical debate. Ultimately, it derives from, and is illustrative of, deep-seeded spiritual warfare. Quite simply, the clash over “gay marriage” is emblematic of the larger, and much older, clash between good and evil.

And it’s reaching critical mass.

“Legally, its a dead issue.
But morally, enough people will never come to terms with it.
The Left has not succeeded in settling abortion even after nearly 40 years since the Supreme Court imposed it upon the country.”

That may be.
As for the abortion issue. I don’t expect that will ever be repealed either.

I do believe that over time same sex marriage will be less of an issue to younger generations. In fact I don’t think a majority of people under 40 are opposed to it now or it wouldn’t be legal.

The wheel has turned and I don’t expect it’s going to turn back.
Same sex marriage, abortion, legalized pot, issues that were hot button topics just 20 years ago don’t seem to be issues for younger people.

I read a sermon, written by a rabbi, on what the issue is between mankind and God. Basically, God has set up a universe where consequences happen and those who stand against God want to live consequence-free lives.

"It’s actually 1.5% who are homosexual and lesbian."

Mild correction:

They are both homosexual, it is just which particular disorder polarization they are afflicted with.

I read it. Big bump.

The war is spiritual and the barf in these court decisions merely a manifestation of the battle.

No matter that gays get married, they will never get the moral recognition they crave.

They're trying hard to get organized religion to approve and support it.

There's a Lutheran church not far from here which has a sign out front proclaiming "ancient ritual, progressive faith, real community" and it has a big rainbow flag out front. Sodomy is celebrated blatantly.

Agree with this op ed. The problem is Christians aren’t on our knees praying for God to intervene on this matter. That is how to counter this spiritual battle.

You're integrating your own moderate social views in your forecasting

I agree wholeheartedly that under 30s are soft on homo marriage

But on abortion they have become pretty strong as anti abortion

And yes....I don't get it either

From NRO......Regarding abortion, the General Social Survey has been collecting opinion data on abortion using the same battery of questions since the early 1970s. Throughout the 1970s, 18- to 29-year-olds were more supportive of legal abortion than any other age cohort. This trend continued through the 1980s and 1990s as young adults were generally more “pro-choice” than the rest of the population. But starting around the year 2000 something very interesting happened: This group became the most pro-life age cohort — even more pro-life than senior citizens.

It was always about screwing employers to pay for AIDS medical care. Why marriage? Because employers pay for spousal medical insurance. It was always about the money.

It’s an attack on Christianity. Nothing more. It’s not about love that’s already unrestrained in every conceivable way.

“It was always about screwing employers to pay for Aids medical care.”

One of the unintended consequences of Obamacrapcare is that it will no longer be paid by the employer. Ha Ha, all the burdens of marriage and none of the perks.

Tax same sex partners higher than opposite sex partners for the privilege marriage bestows on the participants.

Use the money to reimburse the straight tax payers who subsidized all the AIDS research.

We conservatives have got to learn that you cannot win the culture war in the courts, we must win the culture war in the culture.

Most conservatives will understand the culture trumps politics but they are unwilling to recognize that culture trumps law. Nothing could be clearer than the civil rights movement leading to the civil rights laws and going beyond excess with affirmative action movements. The law has proved an ungainly instrument to restrain the culture when it comes to affirmative action and it was only following the tide in enforcing civil rights.

Likewise we see conservatives balking at the legalization of pot. They expect the law to restrain the impulse of the culture. The law held back the legalization of pot until the dam simply broke.

We conservatives understand what the fight over sodomite marriage is all about, it is about defending the institution of marriage against the assault originating with The Frankfurt School which seeks to undermine the family unit as the atomic building block of a civil society so that it can sweep in and impose its vision on a defenseless culture. The problem with attempting to use the law to retard homosexual marriage is that we lost the war in the culture. It does no good to cite polls, rapidly going out of date, which show a plurality of the people opposing homosexual marriage, the point is the movers and shakers of the culture have won among the elites and the deciders.

The author himself understands this reality when he says:

"As for the continuing kangaroo courtrooms overseeing and facilitating the destruction of marriage via judicial fiat, I fully expect that additional reality-denying judges will call up down, black white and evil good. They’ll declare a “constitutional right” to sodomy-based marriage.

It’s all the rage right now."

Yes, it is all the rage right now and it is hopeless to try to win generation long cultural wars from the top down. It is unrealistic to expect judges of mixed politics to do what conservatives themselves will not do: fight and win the culture wars in the culture.
