A doctor treating the Spanish nurse's assistant who's the first person to contract Ebola outside Africa in the current outbreak said Wednesday that she may have been exposed while removing her protective suit.
Dr. German Ramirez said the woman, who is in isolation at Madrid's Carlos III Hospital, had told him it was possible that she might have had contact with the suit -- possibly the gloves -- on her face.
"That's what we were working on -- on the errors possibly made while removing the protective suit," he told reporters outside the hospital.
"I've spoken to her three times, and she has authorized me to give this information."

ISIS doesn’t need test tubes; just get some of your fellow jihadis who want to mount a suicide mission for Allah (the crazies in Boko Harum will do nicely). Get them a passport, and arrange a visa through an embassy in Monrovia. Then, get them exposed to the disease, put them on a plane for Mexico, and mix them with the flood coming across the border.
Or, if you prefer, use the Duncan approach and enter the U.S. on a tourist visa. Multiply by several dozen or 100 and watch the disease spread geometrically. A live vector can infect many more people than a dead one. Imagine how many people a terrorist vector might come in contact with before they finally succumb.
On a related note, Congressman Duncan Hunter told FNC’s Greta van Susteran last night that at least 10 ISIS operatives have been captured coming across the Mexican border. No word yet on their travel path before they tried to enter the U.S. But since the border patrol only catches about 10% of the illegals entering our country, it’s a safe bet that 90 more made it across and are still at large—with or without exposure to Ebola.
What is the % of Chlorine in the recommended solutions?
Hmmm, got me there. Maybe 4%?
There was a link to the Canadian equivalent of the CDC that had info for killing it.
A link to this thread has been posted on the Ebola Surveillance Thread
Makes you wonder how many US hospitals are set up to do that outside the isolation ward/room/unit.
Based on the pics from the Alabama news site I’d be willing to bet none. Outside of the official bhl4 care units.
NIH ebola page says std concentrated household bleach one part, water 5 parts.
Common vinegar ( approx 3% solution) straight from bottle.
But either requires allowing solution to stand on surfaces for 15-20 mins IIRC. Best to search “NIH ebola bleach”.
"Can Ebola spread by coughing? By sneezing?
Unlike respiratory illnesses like measles or chickenpox, which can be transmitted by virus particles that remain suspended in the air after an infected person coughs or sneezes, Ebola is transmitted by direct contact with body fluids of a person who has symptoms of Ebola disease. Although coughing and sneezing are not common symptoms of Ebola, if a symptomatic patient with Ebola coughs or sneezes on someone, and saliva or mucus come into contact with that persons eyes, nose or mouth, these fluids may transmit the disease."

Cleaning out the shed and I found some really old bottles of bleach (6-8 years old!). I tried it on the laundry and it seems to work just fine.
BUT - I have read where it loses it’s strength after only 6 months or so, and should not be trusted for disinfecting things.
“..unless an infected person sneezes directly on you.”
One also has to be careful of touching infected items (door knobs, counters, etc.) where the virus can live for a day or two. (From coughs, sweat, etc.)
Besides the fact you can't spell you don't seem to be able to comprehend.
I am puzzled about this also. Have seen references to loss of potency after little as two months. Is it possible some properties degrade but not others (i.e. disinfection vs color bleaching)? Need a chemist.
I’ll believe she said that when it comes out of her own mouth. She told a reporter earlier, in an article today, that she was careful about PPE and protecting herself. It also sounds like she is very sick. Suddenly she remembers a possible incident? Call me skeptical.
The hospital is doing everything it can to point to somebody else, when the HCWs are wearing Level 2 PPE for a Level 4 pathogen.
I hope they keep the other patients in isolation until more tests come back negative. Many people have tested negative at first, only to be positive 72 hours later. Dr. Brantly was such a case.

Duncan was on dialysis and a ventilator. Sterilize them well before reuse.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
