Mine workers protest at U.S. EPA

The rules put in place by the Obama administration’s Environmental Protection Agency have dealt a severe blow to the economy of the Appalachian region.

The most recent proposal could be the death knell if they are enacted. More than 500 active and retired coal miners from West Virginia and other parts of Appalachia delivered that message to Washington Tuesday. The protest is the most recent demonstration against the clean power rule which would change the rules for emissions on existing coal fired power plants in the United States.

The rally, led by the United Mine Workers Union, called on the agency to halt the push toward reliance on renewable energy. Mine Workers President Cecil Roberts said their message is the new regulations are crippling the economy of Appalachia, but it will also stunt growth nationally.

“If you’re a millionaire living in Los Angeles, you don’t worry about something like this, but if you’re already living on poverty wages and somebody increases your power bill, it’s awful,” Roberts said.

“Country after country around the world is saying, ‘We’re not going away from coal because we need cheap electricity for our economy to thrive,” he said. “The United States is being played for a sucker here.”

UMW versus EPA. Man, which rabid skunk do we root for?

It’s something like the IRS versus UAW: A pox on them.

obama hid very little:

he clearly said, we won’t make mining illegal we will simply drive you out of business.

he said it THAT clearly on national TV, yet Pennsylvania broke for obama.

These particular miners didn’t deserve this, however Pennsylvania did.

I wish every EPA office had protesters daily until they were all shut down.

I’d vote for somebody who would withhold funds so that they couldn’t operate!

"Meanwhile all you smart coal workers in West Virginia keep on voting Dem."

The sad thing is there are not enough coal miners in WV to swing an election anymore. The big voting blocks now are the workers of Wally-World and the state government. Plus the coal mining states do not have enough electoral votes for the Rats to worry about. The Democrats will pursue their green policies without second thought to these states.

The families of the mine workers are arguably a part of the problem with respect to Obama's interference in their lives imo. Please consider the following explanation from a related thread.

More specifically, and with all due respect to mom & pop, the parents of the miners evidently didn't make sure that their children were taught about the federal government's constitutionally limited powers. As a consequence, the miners and their families are unable to argue the following against Obama's constitutionally indefensible interference in their lives.

Regarding the federal government's so-called constitutional power to legislatively address environmental issues, with the exception of the federal entities indicated in the Constitution's Clause 16 & 17 of Section 8 of Article I as examples, entities under the exclusive legislative control of Congress, the states have never delegated to Congress, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate the environment.

But even if the states had delegated such powers to the feds, it remains that the Founding States had also made the first numbered clauses in the Constitution, Sections 1-3 of Article I, to clarify that all federal legislative powers are vested in the elected members of Congress, not in the executive or judicial branches, or in non-elected government bureaucrats like those running the EPA. (See the article referenced by this FR thread; FR: Too Bad We Stopped Taking The Constitution Seriously: Delegation Of Powers.)

In other words, Congress has a constitutional monopoly on federal legislative power whether it wants it or not imo. And by delegating federal legislative / regulatory powers to constitutionally undefined entities like the EPA, especially when Congress doesn't have the constitutional authority to regulate the environment in the first place, Congress is wrongly protecting the abuse of federal legislative powers from the wrath of the voters in blatant defiance of Sections 1-3 mentioned above.

Again, the miners and their families probably aren't arguing the above points to stop Obama and the EPA because they were probably never taught about the federal government's constitutionally limited powers as the Founding States had intended for those powers to be understood.
