Man Assaulted and Robbed in Northeast Rochester (Mn) (When Several Cars Pulled Up)

Rochester police Capt. John Sherwin said a man was walking on the 600 block of Silver Lake Drive Northeast about 4 a.m. Sunday when several cars pulled up and a group of men jumped out.

The man told police the men kicked, punched and scratched him, eventually taking car keys, a cell phone and some cash.

Sherwin said the man's earrings were also ripped out before the group drove off.

The man wasn't seriously hurt. He wasn't able to offer a description of the cars involved.

At 100,000 people, I suppose it’s big enough to have a bad neighborhood, but when your main industry is the Mayo Clinic, it’s hard to think of Rochester as anything but upscale.

Expect more crime in the suburban malls and shopping centers. Flash mob shoplifting sprees. Stuff like that. More return, less risk.

Malls and shopping centers have resources to protect their assets that many families don’t have; in the NYC metro area much of the population is disarmed. Our gibsmedats don’t have to fear armed victims.

Will mall security be able to cope with a flash mob of a hundred gang members who are willing to use violence against any security guard attempting to arrest any of their number?

Stores, supermarkets, banks, etc are where lots of cash are, and lots of expensive products which can be fenced later. Individual homes, not so much.

In my area the malls aren’t even targets because of what is in the stores; they are targets because whites with money can be caught unawares OUTSIDE the mall. Inside I believe our malls have regular police officers.
