The father of one of the three suspects in the vicious Saugus Snapchat sexual assault is accused of trying to cover up his son’s involvement by hiding the phone used to send videos of the attack and turning over his own phone to police instead, prosecutors say. Matthew Cyckowski, 37, of Saugus, was overheard by a DCF worker during a phone conversation outside of his son’s arraignment saying, “They’re never going to find his phone, I got rid of it, I gave them my phone,” Essex County ADA Kate MacDougall said.
An Essex County grand jury has indicted Cyckowski’s son, youthful offender Timothy Cyckowski, 17, for kidnapping, two counts of assault to rape and posing a child in a state of nudity. Timothy Cyckowski sent the Snapchat videos to a friend of the alleged victim’s and “was heard in the background laughing in the videos,” prosecutors said
Matthew Cyckowski pleaded not guilty this morning in Salem Superior Court to a single charge of misleading a police investigation.
The older Cyckowsi, who was arrested at his home by Saugus police last night, turned over to investigators what he said was his son’s phone on Sept. 12. After it was sent to the state police crime lab to be analyzed, investigators found that the information on the phone had been “ported over” on Sept. 6, just three days after the brutal sexual assault, MacDougall said.
Three Saugus teenagers, including Cyckowski’s son, are accused of sexually assaulting an unconscious 16-year-old girl at about 11 p.m. on Sept. 3 in a secluded teen hangout behind Waybright Elementary School.
The girl was found “in the woods naked except a shirt, multiple cuts and abrasions. signs of a ligature to neck,” Judge Ellen Flately wrote in her order to hold one of the suspects without bail. “She could have died if not found.”
The victim tried to escape the brutal attack, but was dragged back, prosecutors said yesterday.
The grand jury also indicted Rashad Deihim, 19, and Kailyn Bonia, 18, for kidnapping, two counts of assault to rape, posing a child in a state of nudity and four counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over late yesterday afternoon. Superior Court arraignment dates for Deihim and Bonia have not been scheduled. The younger Cyckowski’s case remains in juvenile court.
Bonia, 18, was ordered held at MCI-Framingham as a dangerous person.
Deihim, who had gone on the lam after the assault, turned himself in to Newburyport cops Saturday. Yesterday he also was deemed dangerous and held without bail.
Although MacDougall requested $5,000 cash bail, Judge Timothy Feeley today released Matthew Cyckowski on his own recognizance.
True and Dad’s the same. Wouldn’t take much more than 30 seconds to figure out it wasn’t the kid’s phone. Just look at the contacts or the call history. This guy’s a dolt; let’s hope he gets what he deserves as well.
Whatever was on the phone is now on the servers of the service provider. May these 3 punks, no 4 punks, get thrown in the pokey.

Morons who not only commit crime but provide the evidence to prosecutors
Doesn’t trying to hide a crime or criminals of a crime, or provide cover for same, rate “accessory after the fact” or some such?
A shame that he was released on his own recognizance. That combination of smugness and criminality ought to be expensive.
I know that this is a serious story, but doesn’t “Saugus Snapchat” sound like a character from a Harry Potter novel?
