One in three Americans cant name a single branch of the U.S. government, according to a poll from the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
The survey, which was conducted from July 8 to 14, and published Sept. 17, found that only 36 percent of respondents could name all three branches of government, while an alarming 35 percent of survey respondents couldnt name a single branch.
The poll, which contains a margin of error of plus or minus 3.06 percent, surveyed 1,416 U.S. adults aged 18 and older.
The report also found that only 27 percent of respondents say they are aware Congress needs a two-thirds majority in order to override a presidential veto.
Lastly, 21 percent of survey respondents believe that a 5-4 decision from the U.S. Supreme Court is sent back to Congress for further discussion and reconsideration.
Although surveys reflect disapproval of the way Congress, the President and the Supreme Court are conducting their affairs, the Annenberg survey demonstrates that many know surprisingly little about these branches of government, Kathleen Hall Jamieson, the polling groups director, said in a statement. This survey offers dramatic evidence of the need for more and better civics education.
Two more findings from the survey:
Asked which party has the most members in the House of Representatives, 38 percent said they knew the Republicans are the majority, but 17 percent responded the Democrats and 44 percent reported that they did not know (up from 27 percent who said they did not know in 2011).
Asked which party controls the Senate, 38 percent correctly said the Democrats, 20 percent said the Republicans and 42 percent said they did not know (also up from 27 percent who said they did not know in 2011).
In short, the republic is doomed. Doomed.
Only 35%. The democrats have work to do. It should be 100%.

How many billions do we spend on education for such piss poor results? I bet if they narrowed it down between conservatives vs. liberals they would find a sharp divide of results. The dumbed down populace natually gravitates to the Dems for the most part but education rich liberal jews love their socialism beyond all.
That is so easy, who does not know it is Local, State and Federal. Geez.
Considering we’re up to one person in eight being an illegal alien, (about 40,000,000 by now), it is amazing they were able to conduct the survey in English. No sane country would bring in so many unassimilated people or allow them to enter.

You're asking the wrong question. The question you should be asking is did the Liberals get their money's worth?
The Republic may indeed be doomed and the govt union run education system is certainly the executioner.
I hear the Philippines are nice.
Wondering if our politicians, as a whole would fare any better in the same poll?? As President, Obama is now trying to do his old Legislator job instead of acting like head of Executive branch in charge of enforcing the laws and securing the border... Our Legislative branch represents their interests more than the people that sent them there and the top of the Judicial chain does not seem to consistently care much about constitionality any more either. The real slap in the face to our founding fathers is that none of our current politicians from either party seem to give a damn about the system of checks and balances that the 3 branches go along with either.
Do you really want to know the answer to that question?
Just like Jabba the Jeanteal, our politicians can hearded grass.
You really think it is this high?
Sorry, I didn’t get that.
Were you speaking in cursive?
Horrible.. Ask them, however, who Brad Pitt is married to and see how many know the answer. I don’t have a tv so I think the answer is Matt Damon.
