Saddam, Qaddaffi, and Mubarak (and Assad) were stylish but crazy dictators, who kept their even more crazy people in check. They would never have beheaded American and British journalists before the world's cameras.
You could say the ousting Saddam led to the electing of Obama.
Saddam fighting his own kind? But they do that all the time over there, as well as help them when a common enemy is focused on (all that help he gave Hamas, al-Qa’eda and others must not be forgotten). There is also his “faith campaign” during the mid-1990s when he financed madrassas and mosques across Iraq.
Ba’athists were and are Islamic national socialists (Nazis for short, or IslamoNazis). Dreaming that Saddam would take care of our problem with Islamic terrorists, when he was one himself, is pure folly, never mind cravenness.
Did Saddam Hussein Do a Better Job Fighting Radical Muslims Than America?
yeap!
I kinda think he did. It should be clear to all now that Muslims do not value democracy as we do in the west. The “Strong Man” approach seems to work best in Muslim countries. Sure, Saddam and his sons were cruel dictators, but there are probably more rapes/tortures/executions in the region now than when they were in power. As cruel as Saddam was, raw Islam is even crueler.
All major powers in the Mideast, including the USA, believe they can control radical groups that ostensibly are on their side
We lost one Hussein and gained another.
If you keep asking this question you are going to make John McCain cry!
Assad is the worst thing EVER EVER EVER!!! All Allowites must be beheaded right now!
It’s important for McCain and Graham to get their checks from the Saudis!
Recall that in the 08 election, no one could mention the name Hussein. Without political correctness and the MSM, this debacle would never have been possible.
Interesting question.
I suppose it is possible he did.
It is interesting for me to realize there are people out there that actually think leaving Hussein in power would have been a good idea.
When he attacked Iran, he started a war that took hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides. Estimates vary on the death toll, but it is believed that somewhere between 600,000 to 1.25 million soldiers and civilians died.
This isn’t the only nation he attacked. He also attacked Kuwait and took possession of it. He committed acts of war against his own people, the people of Kuwait, the people of Saudi Arabia, and the people of Israel.
He used chemical weapons against his own people.
His boys and he would see an attractive woman and order her brought to their palace. The woman’s husband would be ordered killed, and the woman would be used as a temporary play thing until they grew tired of her.
There were mass graves all over Iraq. We know that Hussein had chemical weapons. He used them. We don’t know how much, or when he got rid of them. He may have simply buried them in the dessert like he did his own jet fighters. Reports now seem to indicate so.
He was causing a serious problem when it was decided he should be removed. He was refusing access to facilities where it was suspected he was trying to develop nuclear weapons.
He was still moving large numbers of his troops up to the borders with his neighbors in violation of international agreements. He was ordering the lock-on of our aircraft that was monitoring his activity.
The guy was a known mass murderer and continual threat to the region. He was paying $25,000.00 a pop to the families of suicide bombers in Israel. He was constantly making public statements about supporting international terrorists.
With large Iraqi oil revenue, Iraq’s cities still had inadequate public services. Water, power, sewers, schools... the place was not run by a man that loved his people.
In Iraq women couldn’t attend school.
This is the angelic figure some folks think should have been left in place to keep Iraq under control?
Wow...
I realize that some folks make comments without thinking, but the folks that actually believe this after thinking need to think again.
I almost wish that SOB were still alive. Because I would threaten to open up his cell door and put him back into power. Let’s not forget his job as dictator was to keep the Iranian backed shiite militias in check. Anyone remember that shiithead muqtada al sadr?
Seems to me Saddam up to that point only picked on other Muslims. Par for the course in that part of the world. Why was it our business what he did to other Muslims?
“Islam makes Arabs crazy.”
I have suspected for years now that it’s inbreeding that makes them crazy. Half of the ragheads in the Middle East marry their first cousins and it’s been going on for 1400 years. At this point it’s not a fixable problem...
of course he did, because he knew you couldn’t mess around with these savages, and that nothing short of terror and fear for the lives of the families would old them in check.
If Saddam had remained in power we would have a worse problem on our hands. The Duelfer Report said he would have re constituted his WMD program had he been allowed to remain in place.
Freepers have bought into revisionist history.
Hussien’s intent was to take Kuwait and much more. This would threaten the oil supply to western nations. That would have impacted us.
We can’t simply stick our head in the sand and ignore the rest of the world.
Are you really comfortable with allowing a guy like that to cause the deaths of millions of people, without stepping in to stop it?
I’m not. Allowing evil to take place when you can stop it is evil.
Granted, lesser acts of evil of course you’re not going to become engaged. At some point the line is crossed and I think you need to.
Yes, he did. Evil as Saddam’s Ba’athist regime was, it kept the lid on unrest inside Iraq. The terror group later known to be ISIS would never have had any opportunity to substantially form in Iraq had Saddam been left in power.
He didn’t have to get it cleared to take a shot.
