It is interesting for me to realize there are people out there that actually think leaving Hussein in power would have been a good idea.
When he attacked Iran, he started a war that took hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides. Estimates vary on the death toll, but it is believed that somewhere between 600,000 to 1.25 million soldiers and civilians died.
This isn’t the only nation he attacked. He also attacked Kuwait and took possession of it. He committed acts of war against his own people, the people of Kuwait, the people of Saudi Arabia, and the people of Israel.
He used chemical weapons against his own people.
His boys and he would see an attractive woman and order her brought to their palace. The woman’s husband would be ordered killed, and the woman would be used as a temporary play thing until they grew tired of her.
There were mass graves all over Iraq. We know that Hussein had chemical weapons. He used them. We don’t know how much, or when he got rid of them. He may have simply buried them in the dessert like he did his own jet fighters. Reports now seem to indicate so.
He was causing a serious problem when it was decided he should be removed. He was refusing access to facilities where it was suspected he was trying to develop nuclear weapons.
He was still moving large numbers of his troops up to the borders with his neighbors in violation of international agreements. He was ordering the lock-on of our aircraft that was monitoring his activity.
The guy was a known mass murderer and continual threat to the region. He was paying $25,000.00 a pop to the families of suicide bombers in Israel. He was constantly making public statements about supporting international terrorists.
With large Iraqi oil revenue, Iraq’s cities still had inadequate public services. Water, power, sewers, schools... the place was not run by a man that loved his people.
In Iraq women couldn’t attend school.
This is the angelic figure some folks think should have been left in place to keep Iraq under control?
Wow...
I realize that some folks make comments without thinking, but the folks that actually believe this after thinking need to think again.
Seems to me Saddam up to that point only picked on other Muslims. Par for the course in that part of the world. Why was it our business what he did to other Muslims?
If Saddam had remained in power we would have a worse problem on our hands. The Duelfer Report said he would have re constituted his WMD program had he been allowed to remain in place.
Freepers have bought into revisionist history.
No one said Saddam was "angelic." The question was, "would he do a better job fighting radical muslims than America," and as pertains to Iraq, the answer is "yes."
Makes one wonder why Bush 1’s administration loved him so much.
You are letting facts get in the way of a good narrative...
“It is interesting for me to realize there are people out there that actually think leaving Hussein in power would have been a good idea.”
Yes, it’s idiocy.
And he did not do a better job fighting radical Muslims.
He allied with radical Muslims and supported radical Muslims, actually giving monetary rewards to their families for their suicide bombings.
Well, we have a general idea.....
Syria's Chemical Weapons Came From Saddam's Iraq
And we know about the yellow cake uranium that Jack Wilson claimed Hussein never had..........
