CBS CEO Leslie Moonves on Wednesday alluded to problems with the NFL presumably accusations of violence perpetrated by star players Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice but said the network's ratings for Thursday Night Football were "above expectations."

I don’t agree. The “best thing” on television is Turn, Washington’s Spies; Hell on Wheels; the Walking Dead and Vikings.
Yes. At the airport there are more people who watch football than CNN.
That’s more an indictment of your programming development people than anything else, Les.
Perhaps you can come up with another schlocky reality show to put the ol’ wife into.
The NFL and COPS should do some kind of joint programming on BET....
ME-TV and BBC America. Haven’t watched CBS in years.
Give me major league baseball or give me death.
A sport where 300lb behemoths break out the swishy celebration posturing and jerky self-congratulatory chest slapping displays after mundane plays and the cool players can’t or won’t self police them can’t be the best in my book. Looking at the general state of the culture it’s not surprising it is the most popular, though.
Freegards
Give me English Premier League soccer. And I don’t have to pay through the nose to watch every game, with NBCSports.
i don’t know about “best thing” but I do like your taste. In the last 20 years there have only been 5 scripted television shows I’ve watched with any regularity and except for “Turn” (which I’ve never seen) every show on your list is one of them. I also watched Breaking Bad and Duck Dynasty although I power watched those on Netflicks. NFL rocks and although I’ve grown out of the fantasay league, pre-game, sports talk, Sports Center talking head aspect of the sport I still love the games, althogh I do scream a lot at my TV during NFL games which drives my wife crazy.
“Football Is Still the Best Thing on Television”
Of course thats what the CBS CEO is gonna say, theres millions (and probably billions) of $$ at stake. Expecting any other position would be like, well, expecting Bill Gates saying microsoft sucks................yeah I know, some are gonna say microsoft DOES suck. I know but your not gonna hear BG say it.
Remember when Mike Tyson was smacking around his wife? That was a givens.
I read that last weekend was their highest rated Sunday ever. I really don’t think they have anything to worry about. The players are one thing, the knuckle-dragging fans who don’t give a damn what the players do off the field are another.
Give me the non-stop action of the NHL - a wonderful combination of individual and team effort. I do long for the bygone days of female roller derby though.
There’s plenty more to watch than football. Hell, I found English Sidecar Racing last night on MAVTV that was more interesting than a football game. The bikes are on the ground, the sidecar “rider” moves around the bike, leaning to and fro, lying across the bike to help corner, like acrobats but they’re going 100MPH.
Even the NHL has a lot of stoppages, although there is nothing better than overtime during the playoffs, because the action pretty much is nonstop.
I don’t agree with Turn or the zombie show. Honestly, I get that long story arcs are interesting, but zombies and vampires just bore the freaking heck out of me.
As for Turn, I gave it a try, because the time period and subject matter are very much in my field of interest.. did not care for it.
Football is great..not a huge time suck for me, but I really enjoy it when I watch it.
whatever... enjoy!.... carry on... (still love TV, but it’s getting harder and harder for me to find shows of interest.)
The main stoppages are for commercial breaks and removing the wounded from the ice.
Folks should bother to, you know, read the article. He’s not talking “best” as in quality of entertainment, it’s purely business: “the ratings are phenomenal, the advertising rates still go up, there are still certain advertisers that have to have it we love having those games on Thursday night. For those of you who know the movie business, every Tuesday there is some producer who has a big movie opening on Friday, and they’re desperate because the movie’s not tracking well, so they pick up the phone and call the heads of the studio and say, ‘You need to promote more. We need more money spent.’ And where are they going to spend it, where’s the biggest mass? Thursday Night Football, and we’re going to be able to get pretty good dollars for that.”
And he’s right. It’s the highest rated live viewed program out there. By a lot. For a TV executive that’s best.
