the leader of the Nigerian terror group Boko Haram has established the world's second Islamic "caliphate" this summer and is seeking to cement his bloody rule on a territory that is now roughly the size of west Virginia.
While much of the world has been focused on the brutal reign of ISIS in Iraq and Syria, the forces of Boko haram have been racking up victories in northern Nigeria and have been violently imposing an equally harsh version of Islamic law on approximately 3 million civilians - including beheadings, forced marriages and the forced induction of children into its military forces.
Most recently, the group's forces have seized two cities with a combined population of 600,000; nearly surrounded Maiduguri, home to about 1 million Nigerians; and sent government troops fleeing in scenes reminiscent of the rout of the Iraqi army by ISIS fighters this spring.
... Boko Haram's emir, Abubakar Shekau, spoke of the new Muslim state in an hour-long video released on Aug. 24, after the group seized Gwoza, a mostly Christian city of 300,000 on the border with Cameroon.
... Shekau, a multilingual jihadi responsible for the death of thousands of his countrymen, also spoke of killing 1,000 "infidels" in the city on that day alone.

Uganda Holds 19 Terror Suspects, Seizes Explosives
Ugandan authorities are holding 19 suspects arrested over an apparent terror plot, officials said Monday as the security agencies continued an operation to dismantle what they said was an al-Shabab cell plotting attacks in this East African country.
The security agencies arrested up to 19 suspects and seized explosives as well as bomb-making materials in a raid Saturday on a suspected terrorist cell in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, said Polly Namaye, a spokeswoman for Ugandan police.
“We are calling upon owners of businesses, especially entertainment places, to intensify their security,” Namaye said.
All the suspects are of Somali origin and Ugandan police and intelligence officials are interrogating the suspects, said Ugandan military spokesman Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda.
The officials gave no more details, saying the operation is ongoing and more suspects could be arrested.
More than a dozen men were arrested at two locations deep inside a slum in Kampala, Abdullahi Hassan Roble, who heads an association of Somalis in Uganda, told The Associated Press Monday. Security officials on Saturday raided a hotel and a flat in the Kisenyi area, known for its large Somali population, in an operation that appeared to target Somalis who had recently moved into the neighborhood, he said.

Al-Shabab, or “The Youth,” is an al-Qaeda-linked militant group and U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization fighting for the creation of a fundamentalist Islamic state in Somalia. The group, also known as Harakat al-Shabab al-Mujahideen, and its Islamist affiliates once held sway over Mogadishu and major portions of the Somali countryside, but a sustained African Union military campaign in recent years has weakened the group considerably. Still, security analysts warn that the group remains the principal threat in a politically volatile, war-torn state.
Al-Shabab’s terrorist activities have mainly focused on targets within Somalia, but it has also proven an ability to carry out deadly strikes in the region, including coordinated suicide bombings in Uganda’s capital in 2010 and a deadly raid on a Nairobi mall in 2013. Washington fears the group, which has successfully recruited members of the Somali-American diaspora, may orchestrate strikes on U.S. soil. In recent years, the United States has pursued a two-pronged policy in Somalia: providing funding, training, and logistical support to UN-backed African forces battling al-Shabab, while escalating counterterrorism operations including Special Forces and armed drones.

If Boko Haram were to behead some US Citizen on Youtube then perhaps the US and the world would take notice. Killing thousands of black Christians or stealing black children is no big deal.

Egypt is right on the border of Israel, and Libya (as was said here at FR multiple times by several people in the past) is a major provider of oil to France and Germany and other Western European countries.
