I wonder why the Border Patrol does not fine EVERY illegal Mexican for “jumping the border”?? (I know, but the question deserves to be placed).

Selective excerpting leaves me to think there is more to this.
I’ll not knee-jerk at this time.

It is a serious crime for U.S. citizens to cross the border in either direction.

Good. Too bad it wasn't $10,000.00.
Slipped in? Please. He probably does it all the time but never got caught before. JAIL TIME?
The U.S. Border Patrol are Feds and they were too nice. My uncle was with the U.S. Border Patrol in Arizona. Back then the MAIN concern was smuggled people into the USA. Still is today...not errant bicyclists.
A BIG, FAT fine will hit the gringo where it hurts the most: back left pocket.

From the article,
“A Border Patrol agent spotted the two men at about 2:30 p.m. with mountain bikes on a dirt road near the border. After questioning the suspects, the agent arrested them for illegally crossing the border.”
Nobody saw them cross. They decided to talk. All they had to do was show ID. They should never have answered questions.
“where did you come from?”, “what are you doing out here”, “where did you park your car?”,,, all should be met with silence. He might follow your tire tracks, but don’t do his job for him.

At the Maine/Canada border I once accidentally crossed into Canada by a few feet and then, after realizing what I did,I crossed back into the US.This was near a border station so,in order to protect myself,I immediately reported to that station and reported what happened. The guard said "yes,we know what happened" (he said they have cameras and sensors) and that there was no problem.I asked them about Canadian officials...would they be upset (there was a station very close to the US one). The guy said "don't worry about it,we'll give them a call".
I was surprised to say the least.

This is what our government has come to: some prankster who’s an American citizen gets slapped with a $5,000 fine for messing around at the border, just to show him who’s boss (the federal government). But that same government says, “Come on in, ya’ll”, to illegals, and spends ten thousand dollars a head to accommodate them.

Real power is the power of selective and arbitrary enforcement of the law. It helps keep the slaves uncertain as to when the next punishment will be administered and keeps them in line.

When questioned by the police or any agents of the state, the response should always be:
“I do not answer questions from the police or agents of the state without the presence of my attorney.”

Any money used to secure the border will be used to keep Americans and their money in the country.

Cool! A legal precedent.
I suggest that we collect $5000.oo payable only in gold.
If the illegal is unable to pay the fine, then the government of Mexico is responsible.
Until the fine is paid the illegal invader will work on building a wall and then be sent back over the border.
Nothing could be fairer than that!
