Mayor Ford has a tumour in his abdomen, doctors say, but it will be a few days before we know the true scope of his diagnosis.
Dr. Rueben Devlin, president and CEO of Humber River Hospital, made the announcement Wednesday night with the mayors brother Coun. Doug Ford by his side.
Doug Ford was visibly upset as he spoke to media asking for privacy for himself and his family. He would not answer any questions about what the mayors health setback would mean for the mayoral campaign.
It saddens me that I have to be here today, Ford said. Rob is in good spirits and I want to thank the well wishers.
Before walking away from the news conference, Ford said he was with the mayor Wednesday morning at Perkins where the two men met for breakfast. During that time, Rob Ford complained about abdominal pain. When the pain became unbearable, Ford went to see his doctor who urged him to go to the hospital immediately.

The mayors father, Doug Ford Sr., died in 2006 of colon cancer.
Shulman said the mayors family history, plus his obesity and his issues with alcohol abuse put him in the high risk category.
Shulman said people typically dont experience symptoms during the early stages of colon cancer unless the tumour has grown to a point where it is disturbing other parts of their body.

Ping. This race has been full of twists.
Cirrhosis?
Ah well. Its nothing some medical marijuana - OK make it medical cocaine - wont make better.
Colon cancer. Wonder if he’ll have surgery in the US rather than in Canada.
Pregnant?
prayers for him.
Liver? If it is he’s done.
The Premier of Newfoundland came to the US a few years ago to have major heart surgery.I remember it was a pretty big...if not very big...story in Canada.
I wish him well. He’s a funny guy. I remember when he was on SNL with David Spade. He always cracked me up. “Living in a van, down by the river!”
Wait times for colon cancer surgery in Canada is something like 3 months.
Canada Ping!
Nice!
If he knew he was going to live this long he would have taken better care of himself.
I'm not surprised.I've done some research on the Canadian health system to get ammunition in debates regarding OsamaObamaCare. One thing that struck me,because I've had a hip replacement, was seeing in a Winnipeg newspaper an official government report that only 59% of people in Manitoba got a hip replacement within 6 months of being confirmed as needing one.I,OTOH,was sporting a new titanium hip, courtesy of a major Boston hospital,11 business days after having made an appointment with the surgeon for an initial consultation.
Probably caused by his alcoholism
He is a pathetic drunk
My guess is pancreatic.
Yes, but still a better choice than the alternatives in the race, and better than most big-city mayors in the U.S. Have you seen any of the threads comparing Toronto and Chicago?
An active alcoholic is never a better choice
Personally, I’d take Churchill over Hitler—but that’s just me. I have strayed from the upright ways of my Baptist and WCTU ancestors.
