CNSNews.com) - A record 92,269,000 Americans 16 and older did not participate in the labor force in August, as the labor force participation rate matched a 36-year low of 62.8 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The labor force participation rate has been as low as 62.8 percent in six of the last twelve months, but prior to last October had not fallen that low since 1978.
BLS employment statistics are based on the civilian noninstitutional population, which consists of all people 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution such as a prison, mental hospital or nursing home.
In August, the civilian noninstitutional population was 248,229,000 according to BLS. Of that 248,229,000, 155,959,000or 62.8 percent--participated in the labor force, meaning they either had or job or had actively sought one in the last four weeks.
The 92,269,000 who did not participate in the labor force are those in the civilian noninstitutional population who did not have a job and did not actively seek one in the last four weeks. Because they did not seek a job, they did not count as unemployed.
Of the 155,959,000 who did participate in the labor force, 146,368,000 had a job and 9,591,000 did not have a job but actively sought one. The 9,591,000 are the unemployed. They equaled 6.1 percent of the labor forceor an unemployment rate of 6.1 percent (which was down slightly from the 6.2 percent unemployment rate in July).
The 146,368,000 people employed in the United States in August was up 16,000 from the 146,352,000 who were employed in July.
A major part of the problem is that it’s unnecessary to look for work when you can get EBT, SNAP, WIC, Unemployment and Obama phones...........................and Lord knows what else................
Exactly correct. They where of working age, but voluntarily out of the labor force. Raising children and keeping house. Allot of people remain voluntarily out of the labor force for the same reason.
It is the 20% of the population that is involuntarily out of the labor force that are truly unemployed. When we add those to the number of people who are COUNTED as unemployed we reach 26% of the population that is truly unemployed. They want full time work, but are either completely out of work or working part time. Usually very part time.
Actual increase, unadjusted for season, was only 14,000. That is less than 250 people PER STATE! It is statistically insignificant.
Many of those unemployed where married to spouses who remained employed. So they went from households with two incomes to households with one income. Often the smaller income.
Most often the man was unemployed and the wife continued to work making just enough to deny benefits to the formerly middle class household. Many have found new jobs, often part time, most certainly at lower wages.
The people you are referring to have NEVER been in the labor force as they are almost certainly unemployable. They have been generational welfare recipients and have no work history.
Many of those who are new to EBT will remain on it as millions have been added to disability rolls. The disabled are not counted as unemployed as they are permanently removed from the work force.
Sorry 16,000. Around 320 per state.
Still statistically ananomoly, a rounding error at best.
In other words NO NEW JOBS LAST MONTH AT ALL!
That’s usually how it goes. Republicans generally improve the condition of the country and thus, to some extent, the world.
Then the big-spending, big-regulating fascist Dimocrats get elected and set about screwing it all up in the name of “fairness” (but really it’s for vote-buying.)
No kidding.
The Obama administration has made it so easy to get benefits now that anyone who applies for them is practically guaranteed to get them. This removes the incentive for work and also removes the person from the ‘unemployed’ roster...................a double whammy on the numbers...............
Is this the recovery that they’re bragging about?
.
Recovery Summer Ver 6.0......................
Yet they claim that the unemployment rate fell by 0.01 percent. BS
IF the givernment records “IT” it is propaganda...
UNtrustable records.. sometimes (most times) wholly BULLSHIT..
There will not be another R President. The takers outnumber the makers.
_resident clinton, get used to it for 8yrs. It thinks it’s its turn.
Meanwile = Meanwhile...
In the age of sanctioned government/corporate manipulation of all financial/employment data, we are told that the unemployment rate has dropped to 6%. They never mention that they are not counting the 92 million people who have quit looking for a job and do not work. They never mention the 50 million people that are collecting food stamps. They also never mention that the population of America in 1978 was 100 million less than today which makes us being equivalent to 1978 far worse.
Baby bootie sockies.
That is a lot of people
