Another embarrassing mistake by Rachel Maddow. This time Rachel has revealed her unfamiliarity with some simple world geography. On her MSNBC show this evening, discussing President Obama's impending trip to one of the Baltic states--Estonia--Maddow told anecdotes of "the last time a US President visited the Balkans." Whoops!
Maddow waxed on about how the last time an American president visited the "Balkans," it was George W., visiting Albania. Rachel recounted the story of how W's wrist-watch disappeared when he waded into a crowd of Albanian well-wishers. With malicious glee, Maddow mentioned that in honor of his visit, the Albanians erected a tall statue of W with a "teeny, teeny, teeny, tiny little head." How tiny must a melon be not to contain the difference between the Balkans and the Baltics?

World’s Second-Smartest Woman doesn’t know difference between Balkans and Baltics. Ping to Today show list.
her brain has been balkinized into tiny little separate cells that don’t communicate with one another.
"BALKANS!"
"It's true, I swear!"
“Note: Maddow’s blooper came in a segment ironically entitled “Debunktion Junktion,” dedicated to debunking myths.”
Heh-heh! She said “erect”! Heh-heh!
You are right ... if one of her brain cells died, the other one would die soon after of loneliness.
hehehe
Everyone has confused the Baltic sea with the Balkan sea at least once.
As smart as your average carpet muncher
MSNBC helped its readers understand the complex geography of the Ukraine by broadcasting a map Friday that included Czechoslovakia--a country that ceased to exist as a single unit more than twenty years ago.
Ummm... there is no Balkan sea.
The Balkans are surrounded by the Black Sea, the Adriatic Sea, the Aegean Sea, the Sea of Crete, and the Med
Especially odd that this map includes Kosovo at the bottom, but fails to acknowledge Czechoslovakia’s non-existence. Might as well have a map with both South Sudan and the Kingdoms of Nubia.
During his show on Wednesday, MSNBC host Martin Bashir and his staff managed to misplace all four cities on a map of the Obama bus tour. And not just a little bit ... a whole lot.
Delicious irony that she goofed right at a time that she was taking a cheap shot at an honorable man while desperately trying to elevate a worm.
“Baltic/Balkans”
I think we should cut him some slack. He’s a little young to be going deaf.
And you know how show business is—they won’t throw this young fellow and his family out on the street for being stupid, but they will chuck him under the bus for being hard-of-hearing.
And he looks like a fine young man.
What is even more shocking is that someone (that was watching) noticed. Think about it. There aren't many viewers to start with. And the few viewers that do watch aren't exactly Jeopardy champions.
