KYIV, September 2 /Ukrinform/. Pro-Russian terrorists seized Novoazovsk, robbed the bank branches and disrupted all social payments.
Spokesman of the NSDC Information-Analytical Center Andriy Lysenko told a briefing.
"In Novoazovsk, terrorists robbed the local bank branch. Due to this, social payments are suspended in the city, there is a shortage of food, the remains are sold at inflated prices," he said.

In light of recent Ukrainian agitprop it might be the key.
Ok, I’ll buy a part that bank robbery might be a reason of suspended benefits in the city due to a lack of cash (which is still somehow doubtful as far as there are mostly plastic money too), but how may it affect a food supply? There are no small local banks in Ukraine, all are branches of larger national networks which would easily compensate any local losses.
And how do they know ‘terrorists’ did it?
It is nothing but another piece to blame the rebels for worsening economy.

I think it’s merely a poor translation: The shortage of food (common in conflict zones) is not (for the most part) directly tied to the bank robbery.
You don’t want to go there. Trust me.
Standing up to Putin by solidly assisting Ukraine in ways short of sending our troops into combat REDUCES the chance of WW3. As it stands, we are (by weakness) on the way to it, or something close enough to kill millions of Americans.

I realize this is a hard concept to comprehend, but most of Ukraine, including the gov’t, but possibly excluding parts of Donbass (rhymes with?) is neither pro-Russian or Nazi.

You seem to imply that this thread is “unimportant”. Yet by that logic, the thieves @ home that you rightly complain about (IMO) are a topic undeserving of attention too, because the things going on that will likely lead to millions of U.S. citizens’ untimely deaths surely trump your “selfish” worries about your wallet, right?

It is smart US foreign policy to make Russian imperialism costly for them and prevent any future Putin manufactured “conflicts” in the Baltic States.

I’m not fond of Putin but and unless we are ready for wwIII, we won’t be able to support Ukraine without a large commitment. A commitment of such would be tantamount to straight up war with Russia.
No offence to Ukraine but they aren’t worth it.
Let me clear up the misunderstanding. Nobody cares if you don’t care about Ukraine and don’t want us to get involved. A LOT of people think that way.
No, the “knee-jerk” reaction alluded to was giving Ukrainians the “Nazi” label.
The vast majority of Ukrainians (I don’t have the figures handy right now, but it’s upward of 90%) DESPISE Nazis. Just mention to my wife, who was born and raised in Ukraine, that Ukrainians are Nazis. And if you do, be prepared to have your head handed to you, painted to look like a Matryoshka doll, and flowers planted in a big hole in your skull.
And in case that wasn’t clear, calling a Ukrainian a Nazi is EXTREMELY offensive.

The fact the Ukrainians were starved to death less then two generations ago surely is also a catalyst for fervent Russian hatred.

No, I said 90%+ despise Nazis. Most of the remaining < 10% simply dislike them or don't care. There are fewer Nazis in Ukraine by percent than any other Western country.
