Genevieve Wood of the Heritage Foundation reports on a piece of news about the Empire State which came as a surprise even to me. (And it’s a subject near and dear to my heart, particularly in recent months, but more on that below.) If you had to guess which state in the US has the largest single chapter membership for the National Rifle Association and it’s associated groups, what would you say? Texas? Georgia? Good guesses, but actually it’s New York. (See update below)
In just one year, the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association saw its membership almost double from 22,000 to 41,000. The National Rifle Association credits the increase to the Safe Act (Safe Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act), one of the strictest gun control laws in the country, hurriedly pushed through by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state legislature in 2013 following the Newtown, Conn., school shootings.
The NRA says the law is a largely cosmetic legislative offering that instantly turned hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers into potential felons.
When Governor Cuomo rushed through The NY SAFE Act in the wake of Newtown, he probably thought he would be providing all sorts of benefits for people, but swelling the dues paying ranks of the NRA likely wasn’t one of them. But those weren’t the only people finding new opportunities in the wake of this legislation. As Wood also notes, just this past week 105 employees at Remington Arms got the opportunity to either move elsewhere explore the many options in the public assistance system when their jobs were moved to Alabama.

Just look at the WARN Notices that are posted here in Gnu Yak and you will see that the state is going down the rathole and at a much faster pace than many realize....it isn’t pretty.

Not a chance. He did what he was told to do and that is to eliminate any means of self defense the serfs may have.

While the numbers for the NRA are good, the situation in New York drives it.
Many good people in New York could be faithful NRA members, and there still not be one gun within the borders of the state.

Actually millions of New Yorkers are potential felons..
Some because of crimes yet to be committed and others because they were not caught YET!..
Morality has pretty much all leaked out of New York State..
And New York City.. cannot be denied is New Sodom..

and the NRA didn't do anything to STOP let alone repeal the safe act... Not sure what they could have done in a state like NY but they did say and do this:
"This law does nothing but go after law-abiding gun owners, turning hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers into potential felons. Cuomo has attacked law-abiding citizens while failing to address violent crime or public safety. The NRA is providing significant support to the litigation by our state association, the New York Rifle and Pistol Association. NRA attorneys have also submitted an amicus brief in the lawsuit, challenging the constitutionality of this draconian law."

how long ago was that? did they follow up on it??
iirc the one case brought to court that nixed the seven round mag provision had nothing to do with the NRA
nothing in Connecticut either, so much for the power of the NRA

Individuals and groups must bombard Federal courts nationwide with challenges to violations of basic 2nd Amendment rights. In fact I'm gonna be applying for a license shortly and I fully expect to be turned down simply because I live in a Marxist town whose Marxist police chief has the unilateral right, under recently enacted legislation,to turn people down “just because”.Once I'm turned down I'll be approaching groups which, hopefully, will be both willing and able to help me legally.

Them coming for my guns justifies me having them in the first place...well put.I put it in a slightly different way..."the more they don't want me to have a gun,the more I want one".
Same thing,basically.

In just one year, the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association saw its membership almost double from 22,000 to 41,000. A small amount compared to the population of NY. Still, this is good, and it is better if it translates into votes.

Conservatives need to learn from AG Holder.
The next time the government extracts a tax or penalty against some criminal, give the money to the NRA, in the name of “gun safety programs.”
