The prospect of another economically and politically crippling government shutdown looms over President Obamas talk of taking executive action on immigration next month and Republican threats to thwart him by blocking certain funding measures.
Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, told the Des Moines Register all bets are off for passing a continuing resolution if President Obama decides to take executive action on immigration.
If the president wields his pen and commits that unconstitutional act to legalize millions, I think that becomes something that is nearly political nuclear, King said. I think the public would be mobilized and galvanized and that changes the dynamic of any continuing resolution and how we might deal with that.

Democratic voters are really stupid!
This close to elections? I don’t think so.
But then again the next election could be years away and Republicans still would find an excuse to let it slide.
Panting, slobbering pack that the hyenas would disown. Every thing is political and forget the best for the country.
I am absolutely opposed to decriminalizing marijuana possession or use in Washington DC unless it comes coupled with a piss test for EVERY Congressional lawmaker before EVERY vote.
Sorry, That was for the next thread over.
**I am absolutely opposed to decriminalizing marijuana possession or use in Washington DC unless it comes coupled with a piss test for EVERY Congressional lawmaker before EVERY vote.**
Good idea, even if it is the wrong thread.
I think they should go for it. I don’t see how they have anything to lose if it is in response to an illegal amnesty executive order.
If they don’t stop it we are screwed, and if there is negative consequences, we are screwed.
I called this one last year. There WILL be a shutdown. It WILL last through the elections. Obama will probably pull the plug on EBT cards (like he did in that test run) to foment riots.
I’m ready Laz...how ‘bout you? Hehehehehehehehe!
So I guess we’re done with impeachment now?
Shut it down!
As much as I want the pubs to take over this fall, I am more concerned about a representative government. Not getting it now, nor will I get for two years otherwise.
Flame away! I don’t care...
They have the power of the purse. The Dems rely on welfare votes. Who will win?
This is exactly how this will play out:
The shutdown WILL occur on Oct 1. No noticeable effects for a while.
On or about October 15, Obama will pull the plug on the EBT cards and blame Republicans.
From October 15 - November 1st, increasing levels of riots will occur in major cities. The entire time, Obama and the Propaganda Corps (ABC NBC CBS CNN NYT) will blame it on the shutdown and on Republicans.
November 1st through 7th, Obama will demand Democrats get to the polls to restore government services.
Democrats will turn out in numbers never seen before on an off year.
Republicans will not take the Senate and will lose the House. Obama will keep importing latinos at a breakneck speed from then on.
The coup will be complete.
getting real tired of dc kabuki theater. lots of buildup, but nothing happens.
See my above. Something will happen all right.
EBT is done through the states.
It would be great to truly shut-down this criminal enterprise called Federal Government. Unfortunately, even when it has been “shut-down”, many of them keep drawing paychecks or get retro-paid when they return from “vacay”.
It was shut down last year.
By the Feds.
