As Russia forces push forward towards the southeastern Ukraine coastal city of Mariupol and evidence mounts of direct Russian military support to the insurgent fighters, besieged volunteer units of "patriots" leading the way in the country's fight back say they are not receiving enough support from Kiev to win the war.

The issue will not be settles in Washington, The UN, Keiv, or Moscow-—It will be settled in Berlin. If Merkle goes for a “Federated Ukraine” Putin has won—
When the invastion comes—and i think it will-—the Red Air Force will hit first—airports in Kiev will be taken out first as well as the TV towers. The only news will be what Putin wants to get out.
Forget Merkel, who cares what she says
The invasion is here. The Russians don’t need to go full-scale, in fact, they are playing it by the book. While the Ukrainian forces are preoccupied elsewhere, they simply opened a new front.
All the webcams in Mariupol went down within the last hour, and no news is coming out.
Sounds like someone shut down the internet service.
The Russians are already shelling or captured it?
Who knows?
Twitter reports were saying they had bypassed it to the north, and took a couple of coastal towns behind it during the night.
My bet would be that the city is surrounded.
They will come at Mariupol from two or more directions
They might even decide to drop the pretense and bring in aircraft and naval fire support.
There are tweets that another column is only an hour out of Zaporizhia.
If true, that is a HUGE leap to the west. Or, it could be to create even more panic than there already is among the Kiev supporters.
I doubt they could hold such a land grab, unless the UK Army really has disintegrated in the south, as some have claimed.
“They will come at Mariupol from two or more directions”
There have consistent reports of unrest in and around Mariupol, since this began. The Right Sector units are reported to have killed several civilians/seperatists in the area since the civil war started, as well.
just random speculation, but they could be waiting for some kind of an internal revolt, before trying to take the city.
Given that the defense is likely Right Sector, and some recently conscripted support troops, it could get really messy.
Maybe an idea behind all of these is to evacuate businesses building outsourced stuff for a Russian defence companies? Now, when evidence of military operations in mainland Ukraine finally looks real I can’t find any other reasonable explanation.
Comrade, I think you may need to update your translation software. That first sentence is a little difficult to understand: “Maybe an idea behind all of these is to evacuate businesses building outsourced stuff for a Russian defence companies?” What language was that originally written in?
Good news for kleptocrat Putin and his scumbag fans around the world.
Dnipro-1...
Isn’t that one of Kolomoisky’s units?

On the strategic road from Novoazovsk to Donetsk via Starobechevo, I didn’t see a single UKR soldier or UKR military vehicle
Thanks for the great link. Items (6) and (9) on the map a classic pincer movements to cut off the salient and secure the north-south road from Donetsk to Mariupol. I hope the Ukrainians can get out of there before the pocket is closed.
Yikes! Zaporizhia is on the Dneiper River. I remember when the Soviets launched the counter offensives that surrounded Stalingrad they pushed almost all the way to Zaporizhia where Hitler skipped town.

Evidence that Russia was seeking to change the course of the conflict was abundant this week in the small southeast border town of Novoazovsk, where Ukrainian forces beat a nervous retreat on Tuesday, under attack from what fleeing soldiers described as columns of tanks, artillery and combat troops coming across the border.
Exhausted, filthy and dismayed, some Ukrainian soldiers staggering out of Novoazovsk for safer territory said they were cannon fodder for the attacking forces. As they spoke, tank shells whistled in from the east and exploded nearby.
Some of the Ukrainian soldiers appeared unwilling to fight. The commander of their unit, part of the Ninth Brigade from Vinnytsia, in western Ukraine, barked at the men to turn around, to no effect. All right, the commander said. Anybody who refuses to fight, sit apart from the others. Eleven men did, while the others returned to the city.
Some troops were in full retreat: A city busload of them careened past on the highway headed west, and purple curtains flapped through windows shot out by gunfire.
Some tweets about a UK counter-attack in the south during the overnight in the west, that may have caught some of the advancing rebels by surprise, north of Mariupol.
Other reports say there is heavy fighting north of Donetsk.
