US 'set to launch air strikes' on senior Isis terror chiefs in Syria
The Guardian/Observer ^ | Saturday 23 August 2014 21.00 BST | Toby Helm and Martin Chulov

The United States was said to be considering air strikes aimed at eliminating individual leaders of Islamic State as Turkey came under mounting pressure to stem the flow of jihadists across its border into Syria.

As Washington debated extending air strikes into Syria on Saturday, senior British politicians urged Ankara to act to block recruits from the UK and other countries from entering Syria via Turkey, en route to joining Islamic State (formerly Isis). This weekend large numbers of Isis jihadists were trying to secure greater control of the border area, pushing northwards in armoured trucks looted from abandoned Iraqi military bases.

Isis wants to establish dominance in the area in order to make it easier for potential recruits to gain safe passage and to allow the movement of vital supplies, including weapons and oil. The route has been used by most of the foreign fighters who have joined the cause, and is believed to have been taken by several hundred of those who have joined Isis from the UK.

US officials said that there was now a "new context" for confronting Isis – and cutting off its supply routes – following the beheading of US journalist James Foley. In a sign that Washington may widen the field of its air strikes, the White House said it was ready to "take action" against any threat to America in Iraq or Syria.

Deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes said: "If we see plotting against Americans, if we see a threat to the US emanating from anywhere, we stand ready to take action against that threat. We have made it very clear time and again that if you come after Americans, we're going to come after you, wherever you are – and that's what's going to guide our planning in the days...

“Why do we always tell the enemy what we are going to do in advance???”

To make absolutely sure they don’t get hurt because our leader doesn’t want to kill them?

It should have been reported in the past tense.

American war planes struck targets yesterday, etc.

They will move when they see this report....and we will see it...that's why.

And that's a good thing.

Didn't Obozo say he had to withdraw all of our troops from Iraq because Iraq is a 'sovereign nation" and we cannot dictate to them?

BUT, we can do bombing runs in the "sovereign nations" of Libya, Iraq, and now Syria.

Are there any Libtards out there that can see his hypocrisy? Anyone? Bueller, Bueller....?

We have to stop pin-pricking these pigs. We need to target not just the chiefs; we need to target ALL members of ISIS. Being a member of ISIS should be enough to convict and to execute every member we, or any other nation, can get their hands on. And, they should be smeared in bacon fat and the execution should be carried out my either a woman or by ravenous dogs or feral pigs.

I think that the best thing we can do is keep missing just a little bit, over, over, and over again. A lot.

Of course our community organizer president has no idea about military tactics.

This is what you get when you don't let the adults run things.

If they could chase down and take out a turncoat American citizen on the deserts of Yemen with a drone and a Hellfire missile, this should be a piece of cake.

On September 30, 2011, Anwar al-Awlaki, a US citizen by virtue of his birth in New Mexico in 1971, was killed by an American drone in Yemen along with another US citizen, Samir Khan, who grew up in New York City and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Of course, for theses two, American “citizenship” was just a flag of convenience, acquired through accident of birth.

Why do we always tell the enemy what we are going to do in advance???

Actually we don't. Several critical details are missing - time, place, method of attack, number of units, type of units and so on. Saying we will attack their leaders is about as useful as MacArthur saying "I shall return". They know it's gonna happen, with or without a statement beforehand. Bin Laden knew Americans were gonna try to get him. What he did not know was whether they had located him. Bottom line - Obama's merely issuing a statement to gauge the reaction from his political supporters.

The US should bomb the ISIS, decimate them and really arm the Kurds, Iraqi army and the democratic Syrian rebels. Obama has no guts. If Bush were in the WH, the ISIS would be really tackled now.
