Which? said that from September 1, companies will be unable to manufacture or import any vacuums with motors above 1,600 watts under rules designed to boost energy efficiency and tackle climate change.

When powerful vacuums are outlawed, only outlaws will have powerful vacuums.

how does making a vacuum suck less improve the climate??
how about focusing on energy production and less on ways of controlling people?

So, with a less powerful motor, you spend more time vacuuming, so the end result is no net reduction in energy usage or maybe even increased energy usage.
Smart move there, EU.
Why not just outlaw vacuum cleaners and mandate the use of brooms?

This is really stupid. A vac is on for a few minutes at a time. This is not going to help anything at all. People will have to run the vac a longer time because it won’t work as well as the old ones.
Liberalism = stupidity.

It’s the same way with flush toilets. sure, you save money and water on every flush. Unless you have to flush it twice. Or three times. As you often have to.

Last part of the article:
Under the EU's plans the maximum wattage allowed is set to drop by a further 900 watts from 2017, affecting the majority of current models.
The average vacuum motor currently stands at 1,800 watts.

Yes, like low volume toilets that you must flush 3 times.

Few people mention stupid here....
Remember the ‘old movies’ when one of the characters would say “I feel rather gay tonight” (Usually in a Song and Dance type) and it meant giddy etc?...
Well- for you ‘old timers’.
We used to have a ‘word’ for certain parts of the citizenry
and the name was often associated with a hound or furry rodent.
There is a local car dealer running ads and one of the focuses is on the Company name that goes on the vehicle with the statement that you see more of these stickers in the area than any other etc.
Well this one Black girl, grinning and smiling, has the sticker in her hand and pointing at it and saying ‘me too’ (may have made that up).
Well the same ‘tittering, snickering’ as when the actor mentions ‘feeling gay’ came about when viewing this ad.
Oh, the name of the Company is Koons.
The young lady is holding the decal BUT the ‘S’ is not shown...
