Brain boxes had better brace themselves, because the latest bit of bad news is that the world is becoming a dumber place.
IQs have not only plateaued in many developed countries around the world – including the UK, Australia, US and in Scandinavian countries – they are actually measurably dropping.
It’s an important enough development for it to be the cover story of this week’s New Scientist magazine, which hits newsstands today.
Throughout the 20th century, we were getting smarter and smarter – each generation brainier than the last.
Scientists were not sure why but, at the rate we were getting smarter, they were confident someone was going to figure it out eventually.
However, according to the New Scientist article Are we evolving stupidity?, there are now signs that IQs are dropping.
Ever since IQ tests were accepted as a measure of intelligence around 100 years ago, we have been getting brighter. In the US, the average IQ rose by 3 points per decade. It was a similar story in the UK and Denmark, and Japan experienced a seven-point-per-decade jump after World War II.
This went on until the late Seventies, when everything seemed to slow down. More than 30 years later there is now a measurable decline – a 1.5-point drop in Denmark, for example.

I think they may be in error.
IQ actually refers to where one falls on a curve. The ‘average’ IQ is *ALWAYS* going to equal 100. This is because the idea is that if you gave everyone a test, then averaged the results, that score would be the very definition of 100.
110= equals 1 out of 10
120 1 out of 100. It would be impossible for there to be two people with an IQ of 200, not just in a room, but anywhere. If the tests were accurate and properly administered only one person out of 100 million could have an IQ of 180.
Likewise, by definition, HALF of all humans have an IQ below 100.
An IQ score is not an absolute number.
Now, obviously, the tests don’t measure that way, I know many many people who have scored well in excel of 130, but in actuality only one person in 1000 has that IQ.

Can the “scientists” really be that stupid, or are they willing to be called stupid just so they don’t have to call out the obvious reason for their numbers?
I’ll say the obvious reason, in case some “scientist” is reading this. Britain is not British any more. Britain has allowed millions of people into the country who don’t speak bloody English and don’t fit into the culture.

It’s not that people aren’t smart. It’s just that they don’t know anything.
The brain metabolizes glucose into CO2 and H2O and with higher levels of both in the atmosphere there is a backwards force on this conversion of glucose to churn the ATP to ADP and the occasional GTP to GDP pumps which supply the brain with its energy.
Clearly wattages are going down in our bulbs. The blood brain barrier is freely permeable to CO2.
