Saying Saying Ferguson 'could happen' in Holyoke, Spfld., Talbert Swan calls for special commissions
The Republican ^

Saying that the civil unrest that has followed the recent fatal shooting of an unarmed black teen by a white police officer, in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Mo., "could happen" in Springfield as well as Holyoke, the Rev. Talbert W. Swan II, president of the Greater Springfield NAACP, has requested that the mayors of these two cities establish a commission in each city to address issues that could prove "a powder keg."

"Holyoke and Springfield are two urban centers that have a large population of persons of color," Swan said. "They are also two cities with a sordid history around police-community relationships. These are two ingredients with potential for civil unrest."

"What I am looking for," Swan added, "is a commission that would address a myriad of issues that have led to problems. What has gone on before is the establishment of committees that addressed vary specific issues, or addressed those issues once the problems came to life. The commission I want would work year round, and would see problems before they come."

In his letter, Swan said the commissions "must be composed of law enforcement officials, members from the legal, business and faith communities, and community residents and leaders." The letter said the commissions would address "cultural competency of law enforcement, and the fair representation of all people in the criminal justice system." Other issues would include the use of "lethal force by law enforcement," and issues of respect and rights under the Constitution, in regard to a community and law enforcement practices.

Swan said that, like Ferguson, Springfield is predominately African American and Latino, with a police force that is predominately white, and with people of color under-represented in local "positions of power and authority."

I guess addressing the rampant black on black crime in these areas is out of the question? Telling the black youth not to commit a felony, go for a cops gun and then bum rush him?

Swan is a moron who goes around trying to shake down white businesses.

I know cops in Springfield. Trust me, they want nothing to do with shooting anyone.

Anyway, the PRs are doing a good job shooting the blacks.

Is that a threat?

Sounds like a shakedown for protection money to me.

Hope he leads his troops up to Richmond so Deval Patrick can say something more abysmally stupid than most of the effluvium that flows between his chit-cago lips!!

why should they address the real reasons in their areas when we still have idiots harping on about white cops being bad or too military.

So long as some keep deflecting attention away from the real problem because of their own selfish agenda then those in the bad areas will keep blaming whites too, and never look at themselves and their families.

“...the Rev. Talbert W. Swan II, president of the Greater Springfield NAACP...”

OK Talbert, just how much do you want to extort from the two cities to keep you from looking to the heavens and invoking the fire and brimstone, looting, and rioting (hey, worked for Sharpton & Jackson).

Is he proposing investigating a crime that hasn’t yet happened? This gives an entirely new meaning to ‘Minority Report’.

Why I never go to the 6-Flags there. Actual feces from the children (I hope it’s just from them)smeared on handrails, door handles, ride grips. Let’s talk about the water park.

Born and raised in Gardner area. Horrid invasion of uncivilized sub-creatures, regardless of any skin color or nationality. Even a cat will bury it’s crap. Sub-creatures.

a commission that would address a myriad of issues that have led to problems

You can't get any more cogent and precise then that.
