The couple, Cynthia and Robert Gifford, have hosted gay wedding receptions in the past. But because weddings are conducted on the first floor of their house, Cynthia Gifford refused to host a gay wedding ceremony of two lesbians because of her Christian faith.
New York farm owners who rent their facilities for birthday parties and wedding ceremonies have been fined thousands of dollars for refusing to host a lesbian wedding.
Cynthia and Robert Gifford were fined $10,000 and ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to the lesbian couple after they refused to hold the wedding at their Liberty Ridge Farm near Albany, Religion News Service reported.
When Jennifer McCarthy and Melisa Erwin asked the Giffords to use the facility for a 2012 wedding, Mrs. Gifford, a Christian, said she could only host their reception on the farm, but not the wedding. Weddings typically are conducted on the first floor of the Giffords’ home, and Mrs. Gifford argued the lesbian wedding would “literally hit too close to home,” RNS reported.

Why the surprise? Obama has already told them that,"You didn't make that", concerning their business. Its not theirs to do with as THEY see fit, only as the Emperor sees fit.
If I asked the couple to host, say, a tractor-pulling contest in their living room, and they refused, would I be able to sue for $13,000?
Remember when they said “How does gay marriage affect your life? If you don’t like it, don’t have one”.
Kind of makes the old joke - “Our cow died, we don’t need your bull” even more funny!
So they could have gone to any other place that would have been happy to take their business... instead they wanted to get the government to FORCE this business to serve them.
Private property rights were eliminated with the smoking bans that so many on FR celebrated. Well, enjoy the fruits of your joy....
If you can get a judge, pol, or 50%+1 of the voting public to declare tractor pulling a ‘civil right,’ then sure.
Freegards

Anything new?
There’s a SIMILAR PATTERN everywhere... from the Baker in Colorado to the Photographer in New Mexico.

EXACTLY!!!
Many Libertarians did not perceive this danger. They thought the queers would live and let live.
Leftists NEVER live and let live.
It’s gotta be THEIR way, to the hilt, and then they twist it for good measure.
I would love to see Chtristians and conservatives create a national buying club and just sell to each other through it.

If College Christian Clubs are FORCED to include LGBT as officers,

What makes one think that these national buying clubs will be immune?
I think it’s about time for us normal, traditional Americans to start refusing to obey. A $13,000 fine? “No. I refuse to pay, and don’t acknowledge your authority to force me to do so.” If a large enough number of us start to do this (and to support each other in the action—that’s crucial), we will force the upcoming societal crisis to take place. If they really want a civil war, let’s make them start it. We just need to be ready to respond in kind.
Yet another example of how “Tolerance” is just a temporary ruse.
Hmmmm....
“Administrative Law” Judge...?
So, it’s not a REAL law passed by the REAL NY legislature and the “meaning” of that non-law has NOT been determined by a REAL judge...
Verrry interesting.... Only the “fine” is REAL.
I suppose that, since the commie “judge” has deemed this “ceremony” to be a “public event”, the hosts are free to invite other members of the “publc” to attend.
So why not invite the Westboro Church congregation? Who knows? The wedding party might like the extra publicity and might benefit from the religious (ahem) blessing thye will receive. I suppose Westboro could be asked to print its festive signs in pastel colors to make this “public event” even more “special”....
And I suppose the folks who try to rescue kids from deviant life-styles could be persuaded to conduct a major fund-raising event right on the front porch of the farm house at the same exact time as the “wedding” is going on inside?
How’s that for “targeted marketing”. I’d bet that everyone who attends that wedding knows at least one “deviant”.
I wonder if renting a booth in the parking lot to sellers of litle bottles of mouth-wash would be a clever way to earn back some of that huge fine.....
Obviously, we need to stay “on top” of tbis story.....
Is not forced tolerance in fact intolerant? I fear the conjoining of “Public Accommodation” and the Kelo Decision of Eminent Domain renders private rights completely destroyed by any judge who cares to so rule.
What was yours belongs to the most vocal of the collective!
Tolerance for me, but not for thee.
Come and take the money, if you dare.

If we could figure out a way to barter or use all cash. The goons that make arbitrary “laws” and fines couldn’t collect by means of garnishment. Seems like we could keep a lot of lawyers busy on the good side.
Good point.
It seems like this is a president to force a gay business owner to rent out space for the Westboro Church congregation.
Force an Islamic business owner to host a pork roast on his property.
