Gov. Rick Perry has been booked on two felony counts of abuse of power for carrying out a threat to veto funding to state public corruption prosecutors.
Perry, who is mulling a second presidential run in 2016, turned himself in Tuesday at the Travis County courthouse. He vowed he'd fight the charges "with every fiber of my being."
The Republican is accused of coercion and official oppression for publicly promising to veto $7.5 million for the state public integrity unit run by the Travis County district attorney's office.

I have to tell you I am sick of the carpola about Perry the RINO. He is not a RINO. He is a thoughtful, mature states rights advocate and he knows how to create business. I am just sorry I bought into that RINO garbage in 2012. I hope the guy runs for President. I would be happy to vote for a mature adult for the Presidency. Cruz and Perry are the only names I have any interest in whatsoever.
This isn’t a Perry presidential thread dear. It’s ok,you can be here! Come on, we love you. ...and that’s truth. Not sarcasm.
Call for a revolt Gov. We’ll follow you.
Hutchinson, DeLay, Palin, Walker, Perry...
If left wing fascists can do this to sitting Governors, Congressmen and Senators just think what they can do to you.
Livingston!!!
You’re sharp. I wish you’d put that to use defending Perry. I appreciate your thoughtfulness, though. Take care.
Grind them up with this. Paste her photo and tell the truth all over the place. Let Perry lead the fight against lawfare. Hopefully the Texas Legislature will defund her and appoint a Constitutionalist over public integrity.
I am with you. We’re not going to get a perfect candidate, but I like a Gov/Gov ticket. I think Cruz is especially effective in the Senate. We need someone with executive experience to clean up the mess in DC in the Executive. It’s tough to do that with a legislative background. Totally different skill set.
I am sick of the attacks by the people on our side too. Perry is a good guy and I like him. He has plenty of fans in Texas.
"Barak Obama has been booked on two felony counts of abuse of power...."
Me too. I’m sick to death of all this RINO talk about Perry. If Ronald Reagan was running right now there would be freepers calling him a RINO because he used to be a Democrat. Read Rick Perry’s book on the 10th amendment. He is a states righter and that is no RINO belief. I think the guy would make a fine President. Besides him and Ted Cruz who do we really have that are mature adults and know what they think about things?
If we are not careful we are going to end up with Jeb or Mitt folks.
You want him “tangled up in legal problems” until 2016? Because he wanted a drunken disgrace to resign?
Seriously?
Naps, you’re wishing a terrible thing on a man who doesn’t deserve it, and that’s reprehensible. You’re letting your emotions do the talking. It’s time to get over Rick Santorum, but I can see by your tag line you haven’t, so...
i am so glad Rick is smiling on his mug shot. :)
The reason these tactics continue to work is because of the Republican Establishment's reluctance to get their hands dirty in national elections.
Even the New York Times editorial board thinks the grand jury indictment of Texas Gov. Rick Perry is baseless. In an editorial dripping with contempt for their own conclusions, theTimes is compelled to confess that there is really no there there.
One has to read this editorial to appreciate the angst it engendered in the Gray Ladys panel of handwringers, Ed Morrissey observed. Its an expert lesson in the use of weasel words.
Conservatives have rallied to Perrys side following this baseless indictment. Democrats have scrambled to disassociate themselves from his accusers. Many thought that Perry may end up emerging, paradoxically, in a better political position for having been indicted on corruption charges.
But Rosemary Lehmberg, the local district attorney who managed to secure this indictment and who many believe was exacting political retribution against Perry after he sought her removal from the bench for her DUI arrest, may end up with the last laugh.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry plans to turn himself into authorities Tuesday afternoon at a local Texas jail on the heels of his indictment for alleged abuse of power, a member of the governors legal team told Fox News, a report read on Tuesday. Fox News has learned Perry will have his mugshot and fingerprints taken.
Thats really bad news for those who backed Perrys prospective 2016 presidential campaign. No matter how frivolous the charges Perry faces, and they are frivolous, few politicians can recover from having a police mugshot follow them around wherever they go. And Perrys mugshot will do just that in 2015 and 2016.
Life isnt fair, and neither are high-dollar Republican donors the kind of people a prospective candidate needs to woo in order to mount an even remotely competitive presidential campaign. Perry has been effectively positioning himself as a more conservative but still electable alternative to more centrist candidates like Chris Christie and Jeb Bush in his pitch to donors, but the notoriously skittish GOP donor base will be nervous about backing a candidate with optics as bad as those the Texas governor will earn today.
Maybe Perry can turn this around and turn even his mugshot into an advantage, as he has so effortlessly with the indictment that precipitated it. But that remains to be seen. When the Republican bases protective instinct has worn off, that mugshot will still be there. Make no mistake, this is a serious blow to Perrys viability as a national candidate.
They always want to appear as being above the fray of the riff-raff that lives in flyover country...the type of complications that result from incidents like the Perry indictment are beneath them.
And it's why they continue to lose.
Then go somewhere else and vent your dislike. We don’t appreciate you.
Too bad Perry isn’t a Democrat, an arrest on his resume would make him a shoo in in 2016.
Newbie....spit.
Note George Soros gave the group $500,000 to fund the campaign against Perry.
