Probe into Brown shooting goes to pot ("shows that Brown was the quintessential American teenager")

Reading the profile of Michael Brown by Molly Hennessy-Fiske of the Los Angeles Times over the weekend, one paragraph stood out.

He was heavyset and quiet, but not shy. He recorded rap music with his best friend and smoked marijuana with other young men.

Hennessy-Fiske also points out that cigarillos, the kind that Brown allegedly stole from a convenience store, are “often used to smoke marijuana.” So, it should hardly come as a shock that Michael Brown had marijuana in his system when he was shot and killed by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9. If anything, this shows that Brown was the quintessential American teenager. Also, let’s have some perspective here. Brown had sleep-and-munchie-inducing pot in his system not rage-fueling PCP.

But here’s what it is more enraging than it is shocking. We know about Brown’s toxicology report because a source with knowledge of St. Louis County’s investigation into the shooting slipped that information to The Post. This move reminds me of the time in 2012 when Florida law enforcement sources told the Orlando Sentinel that Trayvon Martin “had been suspended from school in Miami after being found with an empty marijuana baggie.” Throwing the pot at Trayvon was shameful and irrelevant to the fatal events that followed. The same is true with Brown.

Instead of leaking information whose sole purpose is to build the foundation for Wilson’s defense by smearing Brown, local law enforcement should release all the relevant reports. I’m talking about the autopsy conducted by St. Louis County and the toxicology reports for both Brown

This is the Bill Clinton "everyone does it" defense.

A vote for Freepers: How many of you would allow your kids to smoke pot so they can be called just quintessential American teenagers?

I smoked pot when I was a teenager too. However I missed out on the fun of strong arm robbery and attacking cops.

I only got the benefit of pot one time, and that was through second hand smoke, does that count?

I did, too. Never got shot, either.

Yet this "quintessential American teenager" was engaged in the strong arm robbery of a convenience store. Somehow I and everyone I know missed out on this quintessential American coming of age ritual.

Is it now normal for teenagers to assault store clerks?

Yeah, just an average teenager. I know at least twice a week my two teenagers steal cigarillos then manhandle the clerk who tries to stop then, then proceed to walk up the middle of busy road until a cop stops, then they beat him up and break his eye socket. Yep, just normal teenagers....

Bull crap. Totally relevant to their state of mind when BOTH of them became overly aggressive with the wrong person.

They sell PCP laced pot in St. Louis. Bet it gets to Ferguson. Why else would the manchild mountain man smash the cop’s face in?
Giant? Sure. Gentle? Not on your life.

I have three teenagers.
None of them smoke pot.
None of them knock off convenience stores.
None of the throw up gang signs.
None of them wear their pants around their knees.
None of them have every had so much as a traffic ticket.
They have never even talked to a police officer.
They play sports and are involved in church youth activities.
What exactly is the media’s idea of a normal teenager?

Right, it’s a well-known teen rite of passage to compile a juvenile record and go on to strong-arming small men for a box of cigars.

Credit where credit is due, perhaps it is just “teen fun” in ghetto-world, just like punching innocent non-blacks is a “game”.

?It begs the question: Why even bother testing for pot during an autopsy, if its so ‘irrelevant’.

How does this writer know what was in Brown's system. The official results of the toxicology report have not been released by the police or the courts.

The fact that Brown had pot in his system was released by family as part of their second autopsy.

I don't think the family needed any forensic testing done on the body to know that the tox screen was going to come up positive for pot in Browns body and they did not have time to test for other drugs before releasing their results.

It's 100% certain Brown was smoking dope without any need for forensics, but we will have to see what else he had in his system when the toxicology reports show up. I suspect the report will show more than THC in Browns system

They probably want to blame his actions on a drug whitey sold him, but that won’t work with pot unless they can show it is laced with something. Some people are just no good, for whatever reason and I think that is the case with this kid. Just being poor or disadvantaged does not make one a thug, that is a choice.
