ST. LOUIS Minority officers sounded off for more than two hours Wednesday before the police departments highest-ranking black commanders about issues they believe illustrate racism within the ranks and the need for reform. But those commanders blamed some of the issues on unmotivated officers.
About 30 members of the Ethical Society of Police packed the organizations office for the special meeting convened to call black commanders to action in the wake of a racist letter sent to a black police officer, presumably by another officer in South Patrol.
The groups president, Sgt. Darren Wilson, said last week that the racist note was symptomatic of a larger, citywide problem. About a third of the 1,325-member police force is African-American; the city it serves is almost equally divided between black and white residents.
If youre treating a police department employee like this, how are we treating our citizens? Wilson asked.
Wilson opened Wednesdays meeting by saying black leaders must do more to increase the number of black commanders on the force by reforming the promotional process.
Wilson said he had told Chief Sam Dotson not to attend because Wilson wanted to have an open dialogue.

take a good look at what will happen if they put all blacks in charge. Sharpton will rule
cold water ... still on ‘if’ and maybe is not correct. Let’s give ‘if’ a chance.
btw ... your ‘if’ is probably true.
Sorry guys. Just for the record (on this thread), this is not the same Darren Wilson.
a good reason to be on ‘if’ all the time.
They just said on MSNBC that Darran Wilson is a white police officer, not black.
Sorry-wasn’t expecting an answer from you- just expanding on your comments.
Maybe , maybe not. We still have a black officer that handles all the calls from one area of town. Been that way forever.
yep, that is why was standing on ‘if’ and did not say either way.
no apology necessary. I have a terrible habit of answering nearly every post received. You have my apology.
St. Louis has its own police department. Darren R. Wilson of the Ethical Society of Police is an eight-year veteran of the St. Louis Police Department.
Ferguson has its own police department. Darren Wilson, who shot Michael Brown, is a six-year veteran of the Ferguson police department.
I guess this is the end for them now..if they let these thugs get their way..Our policeman have very hard jobs to do every day and night and they have to put up with crap like this.I know there are jobs out there for police officers where they are appreciated especially here in Texas..
Hiring in the police department is all about background checks, because so few people can pass them. Even many of those who might otherwise be hired will lie to their interviewer or “forget” in their interview about things that appear on the check. However, someone with a clean record, who is forthcoming, and honest, and sincerely wants to be in law enforcement will NOT be rejected for any kind of racial reason whatsoever.
My son is a police officer and has been for 13yrs..My brother was Constable and we have other officer on the force..And yes you do have to have a good record to become an officer..
Yea, he’ll rule parts of the country that are 67% black. So what?
There’s a lot of truth in your statement and my family itself has been victimized by the Section 8 crap. But we managed to move to a majority white community and I know for a fact that a multitude of whites are bailing out on the metro areas and moving to majority white towns, villages, rural areas and exurbs. The truth is that the government reach is limited and there’s only a limited number of Africans.
Just my humble opinion, but it appears to me that re-segregation is happening all over the country but the problem is that there seems to be these weird fringe “communities” that are 66% or more African where the power structure is still white, with white mayors, white cops, white police chiefs. Those people need to get the message to get out now and relocate to communities where they aren’t a severe minority!
Many of the white administrators of the welfare hives could never get that money in smaller locales; the gravy train for cops and teachers in these war zones is incredible (as long as they don’t have to actually do their jobs).
The number of whites employed in the “poverty industry” is staggering; if blacks want those jobs let them cough up the money for the salaries.
Well, that’s an interesting perspective, but, particularly as the cops are concerned, its absolutely unacceptable. A white wanting to operate as a cop in one of these “welfare hives” as you put it, is simply irresponsible and quite obviously a mercenary looking to act out. When you see the photos on TV, the descent of the hordes of white cops into these war zones looks like the British Army marching into Zimbabwe. Its no wonder there’s problems.
I think this article fairly well vindicates my point. Odd situation really, it seems these “close in” to St. Louis neighborhoods went black 20 years ago, but the white power structure is still in place. We’ve never seen anything like that in Texas, at least, not as far as I know of.
