At about 1 a.m., a St. Louis County Police officer shot and critically wounded a man who police said pointed a handgun at the officer near the intersection of West Florissant and Chambers Road.
The shooting happened near Chambers and Sheffingdell Court close to the site of protests against police for the fatal shooting of Michael Brown.
Police said they received a call about four to five men in the area armed with shotguns and wearing ski masks and they got reports of shots fired in the area. Police officers arrived and saw "multiple subjects running," said police spokesman Officer Brian Schellman.
An officer approached one of the men and he pulled a handgun on the officer who then fired, Schellman said.
Police said they recovered the handgun at the scene. The man was taken to a hospital.

de-escalate vs escalate.
This appears to be a common occurrence these days.
The police seem to have flipped this idea on its head.
They are supposed to be PEACE officers, which means they must inherently seek to de-escalate any situation,
not, like they are doing, escalate any situation they are in to the point the end up killing someone or somedog.
I used to live there and Ferguson is definitely not an inner city area.
They learn by example. Many of them saw Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and John Lewis lead a squad of congressional liberals through the protestors on the day the health care takeover was voted on.
They went out of their way to use an entrance they never use and purposely tried to incite violence to make news. When it didn't work they gave their media a false story about black instigators in their squad being spat upon. All lies; but it worked to perfection.
The only thing they didn't get was the physical confrontation they hoped for.
Could be that patrol officers are part of SWAT teams, called in off patrol when needed or carrying the required equipment onboard for fast response.
Don't want a non-SWAT patrolman grabbing the wrong vehicle...
I live it, every day. I see the “inner city” every day. I see the prostitutes, the drug abusers, the casual marijuana smokers, the public drinkers, the good and bad daddies and mommies. If you don’t think this is part and parcel of liberalism via the Democrat’s Great Society, et al then you’ve utterly missed the entire picture.

Socialism is the most destructive policy in human history. It treats people like children. It is anti-Christ. Watch the above by Milton Friedman and get back to me. I’m curious to read your reactions after you’ve watched this.
Coming up with real solutions is not that difficult. Overcoming the label of racist oppressor that accompanies any effort to enforce the solutions is the hard part!
..it won’t last for long...so it in sectors - with LA California being the last vestige of welfare..or where ever Nancy Pelosi’s district is...
One would have to start with cleaning out the cesspool euphemistically known as ‘the media’.
How long before the cops shoot a guy defending his property?
That’s true, but it comes from Christian compassion and reestablishing trust. I talk to blacks everyday. They’re closet conservatives trapped in a system they really don’t understand. Few of them like it.
Imagine a system in which a dollar can determine whether you receive $100 in aid or in which a $200 raise/promotion results in a $250 cut in aid. It’s sick and there is a huge blue ocean of empty political space ready for populist conservatism.
Why do kids deal drugs on the street at risk of their lives for less than minimum wage? Because local urban Democrats have ruined the free market with regulations, licenses, permits, fee and fines that kill the ability of low capital urban poor to escape.
This is a fight we can win as conservatives and as a Christian one worth fighting til Christ comes.
Take a look at this from the 70s over 40 years ago:

So you’re watching children of God at their ropes end, ignorant, tricked by the Devil into believing things about them that aren’t true. I’ll not stand idly by. I’m already working on it. Join me.
If we can regain, just a small portion of urban blacks we can win forever in statewide races. More so, we can really help people and improve lives. Isn’t that worth it.
If we make it an us v. them, then the cycle of violence never ends and the Devil wins over and over again. I’m willing, via the power of the Almighty, to fight. Are you?
It's almost an hour long. Saving for later.
Thanks. The Devil is the god of this world, but I’m not one to go down fighting. As Christians we know that Jesus returns and we win. In the meantime, can we just sit back and let the world wallow?
OK. Ping me after you’ve had the chance. Best FReegards.
Starting with the progressive J school professors?
No, not you, ProfJohn from MU!
Keen observations there ...
You have some great points, but there is a huge problem.
The GOP can not help. If a GOP politician came in, the areas will not accept them, and will assume it is a scam. Same with some church groups.
Thanks. I try to be discerning, especially in these circumstances when it gets hard to keep persepctive. Have you had a chance to watch this episode of Free to Choose?

Urban poverty exists by design.
