The decision by Sen. John Walsh (D-Mont.) not to seek election in November in the wake of a plagiarism scandal is the latest piece of good news for Republicans as they strive to take control of the Senate in less than three months.
Walshs departure from the race came in the same week that two Republican senators Pat Roberts in Kansas and Lamar Alexander in Tennessee defeated tea party challengers in primary fights, ensuring that every GOP senator seeking reelection would be the partys nominee.
These past seven days typified the fates of the two parties this election cycle. Democrats have been hit by retirements in tough states Montana, West Virginia, South Dakota and, to a lesser extent, Iowa and Republicans havent nominated the sort of extreme candidates who lack broader appeal in a general election.
Those realities along with a national playing field in which a handful of incumbent Democrats are defending Republican-leaning seats in places where President Obama is deeply unpopular have made a GOP takeover a better-than-50/50 proposition.
Lets go through the races.

From this guy’s mouth to God’s ear!
So no problem with me voting Democrat here in Mississippi
What good does it do us if it’s taken by RINOs that will compromise with the dems?
I guess the notion of not spending more money than we have is an extreme position nowadays.
“...Republicans havent nominated the sort of extreme candidates who lack broader appeal in a general election.”
Adhere to constitution. Balance budget. Shrink government. Lower taxes. EXTREME.
Which with the current Republican leadership means nothing.
Believing that sodomy and killing babies is not perfectly normal and wonderful is extreme!
The stock market is banking on a GOP Senate win. If, it doesn’t, expect the market to crater.
I’m not worried. I have faith the gop-e will probably screw this up too.
There were plenty of RINOs when Reagan was President. Because Reagan was a strong leader, the RINOs were obedient and did as they were told.
If they don’t then this country is in really bad shape. What is happening to this country should be glaringly obvious.
The notion that Walsh’s withdrawal is good news for the Republicans destroys any credibility this guy may have had. Walsh had zero chance of winning, now the Democrats can pick another candidate and hope for the best. From no chance to a slight chance is not something that the Republicans wanted to see.
Given that boneheaded insight, I give very little weight to the rest of his analysis. As Obama continues to fiddle with his golf clubs, hope for Democrats are ever changing, for the worse.
Unfortunately, it won’t make any damn difference. Democrat, Republican - they’re all but indistinguishable at this point.
Good, it’s the only chance we have to prevent Obama from further severe damage over the remaining two yrs.
Don’t get cocky,
I predict vote-fraud on a scale never before seen in the US.
What can we do NOW to prevent that un-American evil?
A GOPe controlled Senate is not much different from what we have experienced up to now.
They will...as soon as they take the Senate they’ll adopt the democrat’s rules. Anyone want to bet against that?
If you can't tell the difference between Ted Cruz and harry reid, axe the nurse to change your depends.
You damn purists are as crazy as the envirowackos and are the reason we have the one for a second term.
It’s the WaPo.
Don’t trust them.
They want the republicans to become overconfident.
