Jason Carter’s delicate dance on his grandfather’s Hamas position

You could almost hear the groans from Democrat Jason Carter’s camp last week when his grandfather, former President Jimmy Carter, co-authored an op-ed arguing that Hamas should be recognized as a legitimate political actor. Gov. Nathan Deal has since tried to tie his November opponent to his grandpa’s views of Hamas, the militant faction which the U.S. considers a terrorist group. Others, including some Democratic supporters, have questioned why Carter didn’t come out strongly against his grandfather’s position.

Carter’s strategists don’t want the campaign to answer for his grandfather every time he says something controversial. They also recognize Deal and other Republicans – Senate nominee David Perdue said he was “offended” by the ex-president’s comments – will keep up the pressure.

Those forces were at play on Saturday when we asked the candidate his stance on his grandfather’s position.

Shouldn’t that be “goobernatorial”?

Is the grandson a peanut farmer too, or a nuclear scientist? I just know brilliance runs in the caaaahta family.

Was Jason the Jimmy Carter grandson, who taped the 47% comments made by Mitt Romney? I thought I heard a Jimmy Carter grandson had infiltrated that private meeting where Romney made that statement.

I’m an old fart of 55 and I just don’t get it. Carter tried to make middle east peace his legacy, and brokered the Egypt-Israel peace accord that got Anwar Sadat assassinated.

Now he’s rabidly anti-Israel. What happened? Did Israel relieve themselves on Jimmy’s Wheaties at some point?

Jason Carter has a better chance of getting hit by a Hamas rocket than being elected Governor of Georgia.

There's no compelling reason to believe that Jason Carter isn't a sack of slime just like his idiotic, incompetent, anti-American grandfather. Thanks Hotlanta Mike.

The Camp David talks were a gang-up of Carter and Sadat against Begin. IOW, there’s been no change. Ted Kennedy challenged Jimmuh for the nomination in 1980, at 55 you remember this as well (and we’re about the same age, and I’m not an old fart, which is weird, eh? ;’). When asked about his proposals for US policy toward Israel and how it differed from Carter’s, he tried to slide past without answering, demanding from the journalist, “you tell me what the Carter administration’s policy is!” Then Fatso gave the three different policies given by Carter, his wife, and some other member of the Carter campaign or administration. Terd was obviously upset and frustrated. Imagine if someone had actually grilled his sorry ass about Chappaquiddick instead of something easy to answer like Middle East policies. :’)
