This comes from a UK journalist embedded with the Iraqi military. I wouldn’t treat it as final. Some other reports really raise questions about the 70% number and even the quotes in his own account don’t lead me to believe that such a huge number have died.
But it’s safe to say that quite a few are dead.
Mount Sinjar stinks of death. The few Yazidis who have managed to escape its clutches can tell you why. Dogs were eating the bodies of the dead, said Haji Khedev Haydev, 65, who ran through the lines of Islamic State jihadists surrounding it.
On Sunday night, I became the first western journalist to reach the mountains where tens of thousands of Yazidis, a previously obscure Middle Eastern sect, have been taking refuge from the Islamic State forces that seized their largest town, Sinjar.
I was on board an Iraqi Army helicopter, and watched as hundreds of refugees ran towards it to receive one of the few deliveries of aid to make it to the mountain. The helicopter dropped water and food from its open gun bays to them as they waited below. General Ahmed Ithwany, who led the mission, told me: It is death valley. Up to 70 per cent of them are dead.
Two American aid flights have also made it to the mountain, where they have dropped off more than 36,000 meals and 7,000 gallons of drinking water to help the refugees, and last night two RAF C-130 transport planes were also on the way.
However, Iraqi officials said that much of the US aid had been useless because it was dropped from 15,000ft without parachutes and exploded on impact.
That is certainly worth following up on. It’s hard to believe that the US military would be so incompetent. Unless it was following orders.

This administration in a nutshell.

Obama’s New Military
The military knows how to drop supplies correctly. If they aren’t it’s because they’re not being allowed to do their jobs.
My guess one or two chutes may not have opened. Stretching the truth probably brings in more drops. There is some video shown on Fox last week from one drop where you can clearly see a line of chutes floating down behind the plane.
I said it when it was happening, dropping supplies without having boots on the ground to distribute them was a recipe for disaster.
Either the mob kills each other fighting over the scraps or ISIS gets it all.
But I didn’t even think they would have been so stupid not to use parachutes.
Unless our troops were prohibited from doing their jobs properly, I call BS!
I'd like nothing more than that jackass on vacation to look even more useless and feckless, but not at the expense of our troops and their reputation for being professionals.
“But hey, our intentions were good.”
“However, Iraqi officials said that much of the US aid had been useless because it was dropped from 15,000ft without parachutes and exploded on impact”
Reminds me of the WKRP in Cincinnati episode where they dropped turkeys out of a helicopter. Les Nessman was doing the live report from the site. When the Big Guy came back to the station he said: “As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”
Without parachutes?? Come on. I find this hard to believe.
Nothing about this administration surprises me anymore.
much of the US aid had been useless because it was dropped from 15,000ft without parachutes and exploded on impact.
I don’t find this credible.
The guys who do this don’t screw up.
The AF used to have exploding parachute straps that could be detonated as the cargo starts to drift away from delivery zone. Doubt if they were in position for use however.
My theory...
Michelle reviewed the food manifest on the drops and demanded they be destroyed because they lacked fresh local vegetables.
The military knows how to drop supplies correctly. If they arent its because theyre not being allowed to do their jobs.”””
The same “Leader’ tells out Border Patrol not to have bullets—to use ‘bean bags’ instead.
Not buying this story at all, USAF would never drop (bottled water) from altitude without parachutes. I am calling BS on this report.

“because it was dropped from 15,000ft without parachutes and exploded on impact.”
A foolish comment by someone. I think our military knows how to air drop supplies!
Nicely done. My cynical side salutes you. So you're saying when it all turned into squash, she was satisfied?
